Lost the will to eat (properly)

Hi everyone, Thank you so much for your kind replies, and sorry that I haven't checked in here for such a long time. I'm doing a bit better now, in the end I figured that I could still stomach potatoes, lentils, beans and so on, so I went for a diet that was still pretty low on fruit and veg...

Lost the will to eat (properly)

Hi all, I guess my problem isn't specifically a vegan one, so sorry if it's wrong to post here, but I know the answers I'm going to get elsewhere will involve eating meat & dairy, and I just don't have the energy to deal with that right now. Basically, I'm usually a pretty healthy person - I...

    Banana pancakes

Really wanted to share this recipe as it has become a regular thing for me! I like to heat then blend up some frozen berries while I'm making the pancakes, then use this as a spread when the pancakes are ready (from: https://hurrythefoodup.com/vegan-banana-pancakes/) Ingredients 1 cup rolled...

    Mushroom stroganoff

Thanks for sharing :) I've made something similar but it had mustard and nut butter (for thickening instead of the flour I guess?) - super yummy!

    Help! milk advice needed

Some of them have loads of sugar in so it's worth seeking out unsweetened versions and reading the labels until you're used to what's what, especially if you're going to be using a lot of it. I'd suggest coconut and rice variants - coconut was the first that I actually l enjoyed in coffee...

    What's your favorite fruit?

What a cute thread! I love cherries but they're very expensive in the UK. Watermelon is another favourite, and clementines when you luck out and get a good batch Day to day I only really eat apples and bananas, though.

What did you eat for Dinner/Supper today?

I made a sort of stroganoff based on a recipe from Caitlin Shoemaker's YouTube channel - it turned out really nice! Loads of mushrooms and an onion cooked for a couple of mins, then added water, spinach and pasta. Let the pasta cook, drained off most of the water then stirred through peanut...

Which Food or Food Group is your main source of protein?

All the foods I eat mostly fruit and veg but add grains, beans, seeds and nuts for bulk. I think if your diet's varied and not too processed, and you're not hungry, then you don't need to worry about protein too much. I like edamame beans added to a stir fry, and I cook a variety of other beans...

    Breakfast?

Overnight oats: 1/3 cup oats, mixed with plant milk, nuts, raisins and ground flax - I have this almost every day! Used to be a porridge eater but this is much less effort to clean up. Have with barley cup or coffee depending on how alive I feel. I don't think I can even taste the difference...

    Do you drink tea?

I don't like any actual "teas" - eg green, black, white, but I love liquorice, ginger, chilli, and lots of the "Yogi Tea" blends. I'm a total coffee fiend, though I try to cut back/quit fairly regularly...

    Snacks in between meals

Oatcakes, nuts and dates (and water). I take a healthy supply anywhere if I'm going to be out for a few hours - all quite calorie-dense, so there's never any need to go hungry.

What did you have for lunch?

Back to my usual packed lunch today - chopped apple, a sweet pepper and a handful of nuts, with a little lemon juice.

    Hello

Yes that's the best plan I think - I'm actually going to learn to make my own vegan sandals in August (though I doubt I'll be good enough to take on shoes any time soon!) Thanks for the tip - I've only seen a few of her videos but she seems quite reasonable to me! I'll check out the cosmetics...

The ballad of the lonely vegan?

Thanks for all the kind responses everyone. I worry that I'm letting the side down, and that I ought to be doing more for the animals, but agree that it's probably counterproductive. It's impossible to even raise the science - climate change impact of farming, health impact of processed food...

Never feel full with plant-based diet

I found a one-word solution for similar issues that I had; wheat! I mean you might not be having the same problem as me, but it sorted me right out and it is very easy to try. A lot of diets seem to shun grains, but my experience is that it's an important part of my diet. In all honesty, 100%...

    Hello

Hello and welcome, Kelly :) Congratulations on your transition! It sounds like our diets are quite similar - I think my carb intake is high (and I haven't done enough reading on keto to know where I stand on it), but I avoid sugar and processed food as much as I can. I've chosen not to get rid...

    Please help, much appreciated

Are these shoes really worth the life of an animal? I think by asking the question you've shown that you already know the answer - nobody here is going to encourage you to buy leather shoes!

What did you eat for Dinner/Supper today?

A bowl of watermelon and a smoothie made from spinach, summer fruit, flax and a banana! The smoothie is my go-to if I'm not very hungry, especially if what I've eaten during the day hasn't been great nutritionally.

The ballad of the lonely vegan?

Hi Everyone, I've turned this over in my head, and I guess my real questions are: 1) how can I advocate for veganism, kindly and effectively, and 2) how to deal with flat-out rejections of my stance. So if you're not up for reading the forthcoming diatribe then I'd still appreciate some...

    Feeling guilty

There's no need to feel guilty during transition - about other people or about the speed at which you make changes. It takes time to figure out your options. As someone who transitioned to veganism last year, I have found that there is no need to become a hermit :) People respond well to...
