    New expanded definition of veganism

Surely all the statistical evidence points to plant eaters having a much lower incidence of cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity? Sell the health. If people stop eating animals this will be the single most important step towards ending exploitation. When the cattle barons see the...

    New expanded definition of veganism

How do you persuade people not to smoke. Do you tell them it pollutes the environment, it's not nice for other people, it lowers the value of your car? No, you tell them "It'll kill you."

    False pretences...

That's interesting stuff, and I know where you are coming from with the rabbit stew. Thanks for your concern - I may have over-simplified when I described my diet. I like frozen because I can store it for long periods. Broccoli, beans, carrots, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, apples, bananas...

    False pretences...

Thanks, Veganite, that pretty much mirrors my position. I've eaten and bought animal products for over 70 years, but am resolved not to do so again. We didn't really have the choice to be veg-wahatever when I was young. Apart from the fear of being thought "peculiar" there wasn't a great deal...

    False pretences...

It appears I must pack up my tent and steal away into the night. I'm not a vegan after all. I have woollen pullovers, a Harris Tweed jacket and some sheepskin slippers (a present). I have no intention of throwing these away. I thought it was all about food, but I see that I was wrong. Would I be...

Breakfast tips (i don't like dairy replacements)

Fifty grams of oatmeal (rolled) and 250ml of water. 3 minutes in a 800 microwave. Then you can bung in anything you like. I usually add blueberries and banana. I have this for breakfast and tea. You can wash up the dish in cold water - saving more energy.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing

Maybe being British makes me a bit of a cynic, but I think the way forward is to appeal to people's selfish side. Eat plants and you will feel better and live longer. Sell people that idea and all the rest will follow.

    So ...s? diet

Luckily my local pharmacist - a very personable young lady - is able to check bp. I shall consult her frequently!

    So ...s? diet

Thanks Veganite. I've had low bp for as long as I can remember (I'm 78), so it's certainly not vegan related. I'm making sure I get B12. I'll try the water. I last had alcohol (a single malt whisky) last September. I may go mad and have one to celebrate Hogmanay. It got so warm here (Scottish...

    I accidentally ate meat!

If this ever happens again, stick your fingers down your throat and regurgitate over the "friend". That will probably shut her up.

    So ...s? diet

Hi folks. I have low blood pressure, and it has been suggested to me that a small (repeat, small) addition of salt to my diet will be benificial. Any thoughts?

    Marmite

There is also Guinness Marmite, which I haven't tried yet. Must track some down - and execute a double whammy!

    Marmite

I've just discovered that Marmite (and, presumably, its clones) contains that elusive B12. So that's one problem solved. Great on toast, baked potatoes, whatever. Live long and prosper!

    Greetings from scotland.

Thanks, Lou, that's very helpful. I've just watched a video which mentions that legumes seem to be the foods which contribute most to longevity. Beans, here I come!

    Hello

I'm all at sea on this leather problem. Are animals bred especially for leather, or is it a mere by-product of the food industry? I'm now looking at my feet which are encased in sheepskin slippers (a Christmas present). Did a sheep suffer more for these than it did anyway for it's meat? Also, I...

    Greetings from scotland.

Hi Lou. Maybe slight misunderstanding here. I was thinking of canned beans in tomato sauce - Heinz or whatever. Already cooked. And what do you mean by corn, exactly? Is this what I would (in my old-fashioned way) call "corn on the cob"?

    Greetings from scotland.

Thanks, Kellyr, that's useful advice. A few days in and my gut is adapting quite quickly. I don't have much in the way of cooking facilities, so I'm mostly eating raw. Porage I can do in the microwave. I can't see a way of eating legumes raw, though. Are tinned baked beans a good idea?

    Greetings from scotland.

Thank you Veganite and Lou. That's all very helpful and encouraging. I've watched Forks Over Knives and What The Health. Blimey! I don't need any more convincing that this is the way to go. Live long and prosper!

    Greetings from scotland.

Hello friends. I'm just 4 days into my Veganism, and it's proving quite an eye opener. My reasons for giving up meat were largely selfish. I'm 78 and I want to live to 90 (or more)! Of course now I'm feeling smug because I gather I am also saving the planet. Win, win...
