Oh my God, that sounds like absolutely awful treatment.
Surely you're not the first Vegan person they've had to accommodate, one would think.
I really look forward to a day where dietary difference is an even bigger 'default circumstance' than it is today.

I'm not Veg/Vegan at the moment, but I am Muslim - so eat halal, thus gelatine is a bit dicey for us as well! :P
Generally I have the same rule, but I've definitely been told by companies that their gelatine is plant derived with no animal by-product before...Hmm...
Okay. Now I'm not sure if Gelatine can exist in a purely Vegan state, but I don't see how it can't as vegetable origin gelatine is for sure quite commonplace.
I was just wondering though, from personal interest and experience, when an ingredient list just says 'Gelatine' do you bother trying...

Now, I'm not sure if it's VEGAN! But the one in my fridge I'm quite sure has the vegetarian stamp (perhaps it is Vegan? As there is no Vegan stamp, here at least.) But I find Canola Oil Spread pretty good. :)
