To be honest, I still haven't found out exactly why his statement was so offensive.

For those of us who haven't seen the debate, can we have some context?

Though if Envy thought it was fine, I'm guessing it was hugely misogynistic and made a lot of women sad.

No, in this case I've just heard the phrase "binders full of women" and something about jobs.

I assumed that it had something to do with not hiring women based on their competence and skill, but merely picking at random.

Here's a little more info on the binder comment.
Basically, it says that what he said isn't true. He never came looking for any women (in binders or otherwise). They came to him after he won, offering the resumes of qualified women.

I agree, the part that got him into trouble was what he said afterwards. Apparently, special accommodations will have to be made if you hire women.

I viewed it as one of his many faux pas like the ones he made on his England/Europe tour. He was trying sound 21st century and update his image by saying he tried to increase the numbers of women employed in that state department but ended up sounding ridiculous, like the women were a bunch of paper dolls which were all sitting neatly in his binder. Which sadly isnt far from the truth when you take into account how he actually views women.

I think this is like his statement with PBS and Big Bird , I don't understand fully what is the fuss and wrong what he said but also I missed the debates just read snippets.

Not being very aggressive is something the Dems are consistently good at. There have been many times in the past several years when they should have been more aggressive, but weren't. It's a constant source of disappointment for me.

The issue people had with his big bird comment was that funding for PBS represemts less than 1/10 of 1% of the federal budget. Cutting funding to PBS would have no material impact on the budget deficit. So, just taking it at face value, it was a poor example of a way to reduce the budget.

However, he intentionally made the comment as a nod to his ultra conservative base who think PBS is a Commie pinko liberal plot to subvert family values.

During this election cycle, I'm kind of wondering how much the debate advisors are drinking.
