Does anyone know if no 7 (and boots in general) test on animals? And if anyone has a vegan list for them that would be useful hehe :)

They have said
"No animal testing of any kind is undertaken or commissioned by Boots or its subsidiary businesses. We recognise that until satisfactory replacements are available, some animal tests will be carried out by others to meet regulatory requirements and protect public health. These safety tests sometimes involve ingredients used in products manufactured and sold by subsidiary businesses. We would like to see an end to all animal tests and we give financial and technical support to the development and introduction of alternative forms of safety testing"
does this mean they are okay?

To me, that says that they avoid animal testing where they can. However, if a certain ingredient has to be tested (ie because it is new), they will happily do it (as opposed to a BUAV company who would then refuse to use that ingredient). I personally wouldnt feel comfortable buying from them.

Since the new EU cosmetics testing ban, the products can't have undergone any new tests on animals since the ban. I think this explanation here is good from PETA.

According to this website, what your email said means that they don't test products sold in the UK on animals, but they do allow animal tests to be carried out by countries that require it - such as selling their products in China which requires some animal testing by law.

Personally, now that the leaping bunny symbol is so widespread, I only buy things without it if I can't find a satisfactory alternative elsewhere (or in a couple of circumstances on a case-by-case basis, such as with Lush or very small companies), as long as the company does have a policy against animal testing and the product isn't tested on animals... There's only one product I can think of that I still use that doesn't have the leaping bunny symbol, which is a make up remover, and I've tried every vegan one with the leaping bunny symbol I can find and they all burn my skin.

So I think it's up to you, and what you think is right.

I do wonder how much better things with the leaping bunny symbol actually are, now that legally products tested on animals can't be sold in the EU. I wonder if it'll be more relevant what the company does outside the EU - I think products with the symbol can still be made by companies that sell products outside the EU that are tested on animals, right?

Yeah I thought it might mean the China thing too. However, I have also read that animal-tested products can still be sold as long as the testing wasn't done in the EU.

"Companies (even if they are based in the EU) will still be able to sell products with animal tested ingredients outside of the EU, assuming that the animal testing was done somewhere else in the world"

Ultimately it's up to you as to whether you are happy with the response

Yeah, they wont be products you can buy here though, and I don't think boots sells outside the EU (could be wrong)?

Either way, it's confusing.
