I discovered that some of the cans of beans lurking in the cupboard either just went over their expiration dates or were just about to, so I had an inspiration. I opened up 5 cans of different beans and emptied them all into a large cooking pan. Since I also had a can of chopped tomatoes handy I threw them in also. I filled it all up with water to the top and boiled it to a consistency that I liked (it took 10 - 12 minutes). I then threw in somewhat random, somewhat educated, amounts of cinnamon, turmeric and cumin. Once thoroughly stirred, I sensed it needed a little salt, so I tossed in a smidge (the canned beans I used contained almost no salt). The boiling reduced the tomatoes down into little pillows of sweetness. I then had a very large container full of 5-bean tomato mush, which tasted great and has fed me for the past 4 days. If I remember correctly, I used black-eyed peas, garbanzos, pintos, navy and french lentils. A can each. Very easy, tasty, filling and cheap.
