A vegetarian restaurateur who "paraded himself as a champion of ethical food standards" has been convicted of neglect which to the death of animals on his farm.

Investigators visited Khalid Undre's farm just off *** House Lane in Harrow Weald in January last year, finding cows in freezing conditions with too little to eat and drink.

One cow was found dead in the snow, after it had given birth unaided. Many of the cows were severely underweight, and two more died due to the neglect.

I think that what we have here is a small businessman with a tinsy-winsy investment in a restaurant that happens to be vegetarian.

The BSometer started twitching early on this one.

The likelihood of the brains and motivator behind a vegetarian enterprise also being a cow farmer wasn't very high.

********

And I'm wrong!

One phone call to the restaurant establishes that the manager is known to the staff as 'Khalid'.

From the first article:

Following the investigation, Undre’s mistreated herd of cattle were sold to another farmer. Calves which had been born at the site but left untagged were slaughtered at Undre’s request.
