I don't see the big deal. It is a novel written by an ex-FBI-agent, but still a novel.

I very well expect her to glorify the experience that she herself had and make it more appealing to readers of thrillers....

I also very well know that Tom Clancy was never elected President of the US, although his hero John Ryan achieved that feat

"based on a true story" as they say ... It seems spooks use book writing as an extra income - Howard Hunt churned them out through his career.
