The UK's Independence Party (UKIP) has recently introduced a "fruitcake test" to block unsuitable characters who might embarrass the party from being elected. This comes after one of their representatives in the EU parliament made the infamous "bongo bongo land" comment regarding development aid to some African(?) country.

Does this sound like a good idea? Should all political parties introduce similar measures? Would it make politics more boring than it already is? Would such streamlining pose a democratic problem in that some people (i.e. fruitcake people) are denied opportunities simply because of their personality?

Is this what the test would look like?

You scored 25 out of a possible 100

No thanks. Perhaps your right-on views might be better suited to a career on Whitehall or at the BBC?

5 out of 100. To be fair, since I'm not British, so I wasn't sure about a few of them. If I knew what they were talking about I might have scored a perfect 0. :p

This is after I picked France for #4. Damn snail eaters. :p

ETA: Wouldn't be a bad idea for the American political parties. The problem is, a lot of the politicians who make ridiculous statements - and their constituents - don't realize that they're making ridiculous statements. They think they're just being open and honest about what they think. That's why an apology-of-sorts has to be shoehorned out of them after the **** has hit the fan, and they're going "What? What did I say?"

15 out of 100. The music question confused me. Am I crying because the music is so beautiful, or because it sucks so much?
