It's mentioned in this article that German adults were fed less than 1,500 calories in 1946 and an average of 1,040 calories in 1947(below starvation level). 1945 wasn't a very good year either. This was intentional. Arguably the worst act done in a very brutal war. Since the media ignores the issue, how many people do you think died from this?

That seems very cruel. Morgenthau seems to have been motivated by revenge. Are you sure the rations were their sole source of food, though? I.e. could they purchase food in addition to these rations? I suppose if the country was a pile of smoking rubble, and the economy was in shambles, their options would have been limited.

You'll never hear Morgenthau's name mentioned in the history books. Many of them weren't working during this time, so purchasing food must have been hard.

I think James Bacque is the only person to ever try to give estimates of the German deaths during this time. He estimates 9-15 million. I recall reading many Jews ate around 900 calories in the last months of World War 2. Many of them died from this. The Germans weren't fed much more, so logically you'd think they died in very large numbers. Historians don't want to talk about it, so those victims will always be ignored.
