Chef AJ had the pleasure of chatting with Vegan Body Builder, Robert Cheeke. They discuss how to get enough protein on a plant exclusive diet, whether you need to supplement with protein powders, and how saving a chicken led love and marriage.

Robert Cheeke is the author of Shred It! and Plant-Based Muscle, founder and president of Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness, and the Director of Vegan Strong, a not-for-profit team of plant-based athletes showing that plants have all the protein you need. He lives with his wife and two rescued dogs in Fort Collins, Colorado and has been a plant-based athlete for 25 years.

Dani Taylor is a natural bodybuilding figure champion, the co-founder of VeganProteins.com, co-manager of the Vegan Strong Team, and also co-founder of Team PlantBuilt, the largest team of vegan strength athletes in the world. She grew up in a very unhealthy household and reached 210 pounds by high school. After going vegan for ethical reasons, she began to lose weight and soon found a love of weight-lifting.

The combination of a plant-based diet and lifting caused her to lose 90 pounds and turn her health around, eventually going on to win multiple figure competitions. Since has coached over a thousand vegans on their own bodybuilding journeys.

Dani Taylor was raised in a household that didn’t value a healthy lifestyle. Money was scarce and macaroni and cheese with hotdogs was a regular meal. Despite becoming a vegetarian at age twelve, Dani continued to become overweight, eventually reaching 210 pounds by age seventeen.

While writing a research paper in high school, Dani stumbled upon veganism, and never looked back. In the seventeen years since then, Dani has turned around her health completely. She lost ninety pounds and went on to become a champion figure competitor and a full-time vegan bodybuilding coach.

She and her husband Giacomo started VeganProteins, an online vegan coaching hub, founded Team PlantBuilt, the world’s largest team of vegan strength athletes, and now tours the country with the Vegan Strong Team to promote a vegan fitness lifestyle.

Very interesting video. It's no wonder that vegetarians on average have a lower body fat percentage then meat eaters (in Aus, not sure on the rest of the world).
