I guess he had difficulties making his case.
Getting shouted at for wearing an un-ironed shirt is not really related to vegetarianism.

And, indeed, it is not possible for vegetarians consuming dairy and eggs to cogently explain that they do it because of their deeply held beliefs that animals should not be killed.
 
It sounds more like a case of workplace violence/bullying. He probably should have stuck with that defense instead of using discrimination. His being a vegetarian would then have been one of the catalysts for that.
