Killing yourself cowardly

Hitler decided to kill himself when his enemies approached. On the other hand, Gaddhafi chose not to, and he was tortured. My uncle claims what Hitler did was cowardly. If you were a leader and your enemy was approaching, what would you do? Is suicide cowardly in this instance?

A difficult question. Courage and cowardice are moral terms and therefore subjective, hence subject to individual interpretation.

From my POV, the courageous thing for Hitler to do in that situation would have been to order his forces to lay down their arms, end the war and admit to the horrendous acts of his regime.

By committing suicide, he evaded his responsibility, and therefore it was a cowardly act.

What year are you referring to that he should have ended the war? It takes two sides to end the war, and there's no reason to believe the Allies wanted the war over even in 1944.

There are many governments that don't want the West getting involved in their country and the United States decides it will dominate the country. Even good people could be in this situation. I'm not sure which side I'm on.

When Cancer takes my life(as I expect it will soon), poor Mischief will have one less member to criticize constantly. It would help if you respond to other claims rather than insulting the person making them. Some of us have no idea which part of the post you're criticizing.

In your post it seemed you were talking about the days prior to Hitler's suicide, so that was what I based my response on. After Hitler's death on April 30th, it was only a week before the various representatives of the regime signed the unconditional surrender. At that point Germany was a pile of rubble, but there were still German troops stationed e.g. in Festung Norwegen that for the most part had not yet been involved in the fighting. Therefore it's not like they couldn't have continued fighting, but it would have been in vain, and a senseless waste of human lives. So in that sense the act of surrender was not cowardice, but the right thing to do, perhaps even courageous, considering the barbaric acts of retribution esp. perpetrated by the Red Army.

Is this the thread where we admit that Hitler may have done one or two minor bad things, but mainly discuss the horrendous crimes of the allies?

Have you seen a doctor? If you have been diagnosed with cancer, you have my sympathy. If you haven't (as was the case the last time you talked about having cancer), then you have my sympathy for spending so much time needlessly worrying.

I think so.

For good or bad, I'm glad the U.S. got involved or I wouldn't be here right now. Everyone on my father's side except one relative was killed in Auschwitz. If it wasn't for the U.S. my dad would have been killed as well, and they did try to kill him numerous times.

Oh is it everyone that is criticized ? I do not feel so special anymore :(

The Nazi mission was kinda to rid the world of 'losers'.

With not being a loser ruled out of the equation Hitler rid the world of himself.

At the least that was an act consistent with his mission.

You can have Cancer for many years before you die. It's the same problem I talked about a while back. The fact that I've been getting more tired over time even with good sleep tells me life may be nearing its end. Just because it was never diagnosed(I'd prefer to put my limited amount of money elsewhere) doesn't mean I don't have Cancer.

If you noticed I originally mentioned two people(Hitler, Gaddhafi). I didn't mean for this to be a World War 2 discussion. I have pretty much nothing to say about the Allies at this point that I haven't said before. To answer your question, no.

Being convinced you have cancer can in and of itself make you tired. Any kind of mental illness zaps a whole lot of your energy - as much, if not more, than the most serious physical ailments. It really is a shame that you are letting the prime of your life be consumed like this, without any effort to do anything about it.

You owe yourself better, RF1.

No, sweetie - just those who tend to figuratively jump up and down, screaming for attention, in the apparent belief that attention of any kind, whether good or bad, is better than no attention at all.

PLEASE go and see a doctor if you think you might have cancer. Feeling tired can occur from a number of health issues like stress, chronic fatigue, nutritional deficiencies etc...

Veggieviews is the message board I post on far more than any other these days. There are other boards I've been on that have more members than Veggieviews. If I wanted attention, I'd post on some of the boards with more members far more often. I have an opinion much different than the norm. That doesn't mean I'm looking for attention.
