Apparently food prices are up at least in the US at the same time, but it sounds like it's mostly animal products so it doesn't apply to many people here. Do you save or spend more when oil prices drop? Do your driving habits change?

It would have to be a very drastic change in oil prices to get me to change my habits. That being said, I don't drive all that much. We live in a small city (Richmond, VA - 250k in the city, 1mil in the whole metropolitan area) and most everything I need or do is close by. The sad thing is that our public transportation system is very inadequate.

I work in Ottawa most of the time, live in Saint Hubert, QC, and play weekend warrior in Vermont. I'm driving all over the place regardless of prices. I'd probably take as much as a 50% pay cut if I could find something in or near Sherbrooke, QC, thereby more or less centralizing all of the above. But good work for military language fanatics seems to be isolated to either government heavy areas or warring 3rd world countries. So I'm pretty much gas dependent for the time being.

I can't walk anywhere where I live and need a car for everything. The farthest I have to go for errands is 15 miles but mostly everything is within 5, including my job. :)

Other than visiting my daughter every 1-2 months (150 miles round trip) and taking care of my sister once a week for the past few months (100 miles round trip) I can easily go two weeks on a tank of gas.

I am conscious of my driving habits, for the most part, in that I watch my speed and acceleration so as not to waste gas with quick starts or sudden passing whenever I can. I notice I get better gas mileage when I drive to my daughter's than when my hubby drives. [emoji12]
