New Zealand's war against mammals

Humans create the problems, and then always decide that the answer is to kill.

Disgusting.

Sometimes I'd almost rather just let the ecosystem even itself out.

I mean, what's done is done, there isn't really any solution to invasive species that doesn't involve killing them that can tip the scale back as far as it needs to go to bring the habitat back to what it used to be. The Earth changes constantly, but we have this weird idea that we have to fix all our biological mistakes, even if the only feasible answer is violent and cruel.

For instance, we can't get the dodo back, but the ecosystem of Mauritius recovered. It's different now, and the extinction of the dodo was tragic, but it'd be pretty dumb at this point to clone the dodo or something and try to force it back in.

Invasive species have created a niche where they are, even if it's destructive, and there's not much we can do about it. Until a better solution comes up I say let them do what they're gonna do and if that backfires on us then it's our own damn fault to begin with.

I was going to join Forest and Bird society , they were really nice people . But in all the conversations I had with them it wasn’t long before the talk got around to kill, kill, kill , its a bit hard to handle ,

It is a major problem , I see the destruction caused by rats, mice ,stouts, ferrets and possums on my mourning walks . Down here they just dump tons on 1080 poison via helicopter, to try and control .

I have seen Islands off shore that they have created "predator free" with amazing results for the natural wild life ....I go some way in support of that .

@ FortyTwo ..."there's not much we can do about it" . Well it seems there is , they are trying to develop /introduce conception control to just stop breeding and let them naturally die out .Also on the mainland there are few of these places through out the country .

I was in contact (email) with one of the scientist developing conception control , but have since lost contact . I hope its not far away from .

I would absolutely support this. If there's a safe way to stop invasive species without just mass killing them all, then I'm all for it.
