Okay I came to the party a little late, but I hope everyone had a good pancake day. I didn't have mine until yesterday when we had time to cook them, and we had lots of pancakes for breakfast with sugar and lemon or golden syrup and banana. :up:

I feel like we should have a thread, since I think it's only us that celebrates the beginning of lent with pancakes, right? Is anybody doing anything different for lent? }

Also, I made mine with egg replacer and it was the first time I've made vegan pancakes that are thin enough to resemble egg-pancakes. Usually my vegan pancakes are a little too thick. Finally found a use for egg replacer!

We had pancake day on the actual day, Pancake Tuesday. I had genuine Canadian maple syrup, and strawberry jam to go on my pancakes. This was our dinner that day, so we also had some fried potatoes, onions, bell pepper and vegan chorizo on the side.

I think Pancake Tuesday, or Fat Tuesday, is not technically the start of Lent, but rather the end of the excesses, a last binge just before Lent, because Lent is supposed to be a period of sacrifice, fasting, and/or in some instances not eating meat. Right?

:D I think everybody does, we just never end up celebrating on the right days because my better half and me don't really see eachother for half the week because of his odd working hours.

Yeah you're right. I didn't realise the difference was significant (start of lent/end of excess). I was always taught it was using up the ingredients (egg, flour, milk, sugar) before fasting. Lots of people I know give up various things for lent, regardless of their religion - chocolate, beer, meat, biscuits, crisps, etc. I never really see the point, unless you're religious. I'm not into abstinence... :)
