''A campaign to raise awareness of the "silent killer" sepsis is being launched by the Scottish government.
It will highlight the signs and symptoms of the condition which kills about 3,500 people in Scotland every year.
Campaigners have welcomed the move, describing it as a "game changer" which could ultimately save lives.
The publicity drive on radio, print and social media is expected to reach more than 1.3m people across the country.
Sepsis is a life-threatening reaction to an infection. ''

It happens when your immune system overreacts to an infection and starts to damage your body's own tissues and organs.
You cannot catch sepsis from another person.

Sepsis is sometimes called septicaemia or blood poisoning.

So scary. I’ve had personal experience with losing someone to sepsis. This beautiful young woman left behind her ten year old daughter when she succumbed to sepsis and died September 15, 2017. She was a coworker and a friend. An amazing, beautiful, incredibly smart woman. It devastated all of us.
Her name just happened to also be Karen. :) She’s on the left... I’m the one with the wild hair, always hiding behind sunglasses.

So tragic ! I'm sorry for your loss.

There is a huge campaign in the UK concerning sepsis as many people don't pick up the symptoms.

Thank you.

Exactly what happened in Karen’s case. She had some stomach discomfort for a few days. She was admitted to the hospital on a Monday and was gone by Friday.

That is so sad. Her story seems to be similar to so many other testimonials.

Even medical staff are not picking up the symptoms. Several hospitals in the UK are feeding their computer systems with a digital alert that comes up in bold read letters when patients are admitted to A&E with possible sepsis symptoms.
