Coal is dirty and polluting. Coal mining is dangerous work and unhealthy for the workers, many of whom have died of Black Lung. It also damages the environment. The coal mining industry also has a history of mistreatment of its workers. There are a lot of good reasons for abandoning coal mining worldwide.
What do you think, and what kind of work could former coal miners do instead? If coal mining is abandoned, other sources of fuel need to be created and used. There is resistance to this by many. How would advocates for cleaner, safer energy sources convince them that coal must be replaced with better sources of energy?
