I make this simple split pea soup in the Instant Pot. It's super easy and you have soup in a little over an hour. I add liquid smoke to give it that smoky flavor that it used to get from the ham hock.

This recipe is made without salt or oil. If you want to see how I did it, you can watch the video linked below.

2 lbs split peas
10 cups of water
1 TBSP Onion Powder
1 TBSP Garlic Powder
1 stalk celery
3 whole carrots peeled
3 Yukon Gold Potatoes unpeeled
1 TBSP liquid smoke ( I used hickory)
1 large sweet yellow onion
10 cups water

Cut up the onion and celery. Saute in half cup of water until browned adding water as needed.
Cut up the carrots and potatoes.
Add everything to the Instant Pot.
Set Instant Pot to Manual High for thirty minutes.
When finished use manual release on the Instant Pot and let it go thirty minutes after the Instant Pot is finished on manual high.
Then enjoy our soup.

Yum, split pea soup. On Star Trek the Next Generation, Commander Riker expressed a preference for split pea soup, fresh from the replicator.

I usually buy Hamms split peas which come with a packet of smoky seasoning that's vegan. I only use half

Here is a cooking chart for pressure cooking times for making pulses/legumes :

Cooking time will vary depending on whether they are soaked or not and the other ingredients that are added. Moreover, it also
depends on how old the pulses are. Sometimes, it seems that they take forever to cook.

I had a recipe for 5 minute split pea soup but I can't find it.

I think the main steps are

1) open can
2) heat

... Just kidding, I love split pea soup, and the liquid smoke is a great way to get the "real" taste.
