Let's face it, Nietzsche was right: We ought to be striving for the Superhuman (or Overhuman, if you will). We are human, all too human, and let's face it, at this point our civilization needs a miracle. Genetic engineering, matchmaking / blind dates for geniuses, or eugenics: We gotta do what we gotta do.

Discuss.

I'd agree that for the majority of humans, we'd be better off with a lot more compassion. But our civilization is destroying itself and other species too at an alarming rate. Anthropogenic global warming is happening right now! We're hooked on fossil fuels and we need a miracle. We need an Übermensch to set us on the right path and solve our problems.

Creating a better human would be pointless really unless you also remove the others, or their influence. Nothing you've mentioned so far is beyond what we're theoretically capable of - but most people aren't or don't want to make those changes.

The problem isn't lack of intelligence; the problem is willful ignorance and a lack of compassion. Genetic engineering and the like isn't going to fix that.
I don't know whether or not it is going to change that, but there's no particular reason why it couldn't.

I realize this isn't strictly a word, but... when did you become plural?

General "Buck" Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?
Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious... service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.

I think that at one point the entire human race might reach a level of enlightenment. But that is very far off, we are too busy firing missiles at each other at the moment.

That sounds like a 'singularity' sort of thing. Or at least, my approach to the singularity, which is something along the lines of: why is this and us even separate?
