Well, of course. That's because in the UK, the government has more control over the food companies, whereas in the US the food companies have more control over the government.

You're right as they call it E something and if you're not careful you discover that it is in lots of food.

I was wrong; it used to be:

Red Smarties were previously dyed with cochineal, a derivative of the product made by extracting colour from female cochineal beetles. A pigment extracted from red cabbage is now used in the UK

I hate artificial dyes. My daughter used to get bad reactions to food dyes when she was young.
