There are local elections in the UK today, and it's very complicated:

There are local elections in England, Wales and Scotland, but not Northern Ireland.

In England: 27 county councils, 6 unitary councils and 1 metro council. First past the post decides who wins, except in the metro council vote which is using a type of ranked-choice voting.
In Wales: All county councils. First past the post decides who wins.
Scotland: All county councils. Single transferable vote (ranked voting).

The first results are expected around 2am, and the final results tomorrow night.

In Oxfordshire the Tories got the same number of seats as in the last election, Labour lost one, the Greens lost all 3, the Lib Dems gained 2, and independents increased their share by 1. There is now talk of a "rainbow coalition" to avoid Tory dominance, but this looks a bit far-fetched, as the Tories only need support from 1 independent councillor. Still, there is hope ...! Some of the independents are sick of the cuts under the previous Tory-governed council.

The Greens' loss has been explained by voters thinking too much about the upcoming general election, whereas the Lib Dems' gains are explained by strong anti-Brexit sentiments in the county.
