I bought a copy of J. Edgar on DVD starring Leonardo DiCaprio (movie directed by Clint Eastwood). It was new but on the clearance rack and cost me $5. It had a sticker on the package making an offer to store the film digitally for you for free as long as you entered the redemption code inside the package.

You could enter the code at:

vudu.com/redeem

or

flixster.com/getUV

Learn about compatible devices at:

wb.com/ultravioletdevices

Has anyone tried this? I don't really have access to a high-speed connection, so have not tried to watch the digital version of the movie yet.

No, I haven't back up movies yet. just music and pictures. I suppose if I was going to backup movies, I'd use a DVD ripper to create a digital file, and then upload it to a cloud storage service that Ive already signed up for.

Which (if any) DVD ripper would you recommend? Any freeware?

I'm afraid I'm totally ignorant about DVD rippers.

Here's some freeware that so far has a positive rating, but you have to download it today 4/4/20414.

It's from give-away of the day, and I check this site daily. You can often get good stuff, but there is a lot of crapware offered too. They seem to have DVD rippers often.
