Today I obtained some mulling spices (a mixture of festive herbs like star anise, cinnamon, and cloves) from the local herbal shop, and simmered them on the stove in cloudy, unstrained apple juice (otherwise known as cider) and served in mugs with a jigger of dry sherry, orange zest, and a bit of the fresh squeezed orange. My friend and I both are enjoying this festive holiday drink.

You will need:

Mulling Spices (to taste)
Unstrained/unpasteurized apple juice or apple cider (3/4 cup - 1 cup per person)
Christian Brothers Dry Sherry (vegan-safe according to Barnivore.com) 1 shot or jigger per serving
The zest and juice of 1/2 - 1 orange (depending on number of servings prepared)

Simmer cider and spices on the stove, pull off heat and add zest and squeeze of orange, serve in mugs or tea cups over a shot to a jigger of sherry (or brandy would work, Christian Brothers also makes vegan brandy).

Do you have favorite holiday drinks that are vegan-friendly? I like this one because it's warm on a chilly night.
