Nutrition & Diet What multivitamin do you take?

I take the Veg1 one made by the vegan society, on recommendation of other veggieviewers. It tastes like crap but Ive got used to it. Its missing iron though, if you need that (I cant take iron so thats a good thing to me!).

How's the calcium on that?Is it pretty high?

What about the vitamin A?I think anything above 1500mg is probably too much.

Everleigh, I'm curious to know why you want to take a multivitamin? Are you trying to replace nutrients that you're not getting in your normal diet, or trying to supplement nutrients that you ARE getting? My feeling is that if you eat a good, healthy, balanced diet, you should be getting all you need in your food. Make sure you eat plenty of foods rich in calcium, iron, etc.

If you still want to take a multi, I strongly recommend one with the recommended daily dose of iron. Menstruating women need to get enough iron in their system because it's lost during their periods. Lack of iron leads to lethargy and anemia.

I'm just trying to supplement nutrients that I am getting. But unfortunately, I think I need to get something high in calcium and with iron.I eat greens, tofu and drink the fortified milks but not as much as I would like.

I take a local store brand vitamin which is like the knock off version of Flinstones , but without the gelatin. I have issues swallowing pills so the chewables work best for me. I also take B12, Vitamin C, and Calcium supplements.

Oh yeah. I take a separate calcium/magnesium supplement. I just added that recently because I've been having leg cramps, and they seem to have decreased. I think the serving size is two pills but I just take one.

I'm not really concerned about sleeping problems.I am however concerned with things like osteoporosis.
Well, if you take calcium together with half the amount of magnesium (such as 500 Mg calcium, 250Mg magnesium), it is considered a good balance.
--------
"While magnesium does not affect the absorption of calcium in the body, it does control the transport of calcium across cell membranes. You must maintain a balance between calcium and magnesium to maintain a normal heartbeat and regulate your blood pressure. The best way to do this is to maintain the recommended daily intake of both calcium and magnesium." http://www.livestrong.com/article/444390-can-calcium-be-absorbed-without-magnesium/#page=2

Might try something that has a balance of 1,000 mg cal to 400 mg magnesium. It's not half but almost.

There is a mulit vitamin with iron and calcium. Called "Seven Seas mulitivitamin". Haven't tried it, but maybe I take that one next time I order. I take Veg1 vitamins now, since I have a too litle D vitamin (as most Norwegian obvios has, we have no sunshine...).

Just curious, are you able to purchase Veg1 in Norway, or did you have to get it shipped from the UK?
