It says there is food available for him around the clock... but yes he looks quite thin.. I wonder what a vet would say about this.

Don't they measure dogs and horses from the shoulders down? So the height of his head wouldn't count. Assuming that woman is avarage hight, 5'4, 3'8 would be right.

I do wonder if being that big causes any health problems, though. :(

But he looks like a sweet boy, though. :) I'd let him kiss me. :p

He does look very thin. :( I would think he has a very short life expectancy - generally, the bigger the dog, the shorter the life span. For instance, the average lifespan for an Irish wolfhound (amazing creatures as they are) is only 6-8 years.

Have you read some of the comments? That dog looks quite underweight. :( 150 lbs for a dog of that stature is not very much.

I haven't read the comments but I did notice how thin he was. :( I was hoping it was just because of his condition.

To me it looks like the angle of the photo makes the dog look way bigger than he is. Look at the size of the back paw vs the front paw. He is pretty skinny though. :(

Yeah that's crazy tall. I'm sure his lifespan is short for a dog regardless of weight, I wonder if he was bred for size or is a genetic abnormality...

That dog is seriously underweight. Considering that the minimum weight of a male Great Dane should be 12olbs and he's only 150lbs then it's really bad. Min height for a male is 30".

I didn't even look at the weight at first as I was too busy being surprised by the height but I agree that dog looks underweight.:(

I asked my mom if she thought the dog looked underfed,
she said yes, he looks very underfed and malnourished.

It does look very thin compared to the one which held the record last. Maybe rather than inherently reaching that size, there was some sort of genetic issue. If the dog didn't feel like eating much, or wasn't fed enough, I would expect that would hinder growth normally... and if it was caused by some undiagnosed condition later in life, the amount of weight lost would seem too drastic not to notice.

Though on the other hand... some people are just always really thin. I guess the same could happen in dogs.

Hard to say. If they do leave food out all the time then maybe he has a low appetite or it's just hard to eat enough to keep up with his metabolism. His coat is smooth and shiny, isn't that an indicator of health?

I don't know much about fur, but there are at least visible muscles, rather than just looking completely emaciated. I've been surprised sometimes to look in the mirror and realize you could count my ribs, but my weight - besides being as low as usual - was indifferent, as it had all just gone to my muscles. When those start to go, then you've really got problems, as your body is basically sacrificing things to stay alive. This is... almost more like 'shaved chihuahua' territory.

Of course, they'd want to be quite careful if there are any changes, because without fat to lose it's not good to find yourself getting lighter.
