I watched the ceremony this afternoon and was moved to tears by what the survivors said. Moreover, it most probably will be the last time that there
is a memorial with the survivors as most of them are in their late 80/90's.

Fifteen years ago, some 1,500 survivors attended the anniversary. This year, there were fewer than 200 and, for many, it is likely to be their last visit.

The ceremony was a culmination of a week of events around the world, including a commemoration in Jerusalem, marking the liberation of Auschwitz by Red Army troops on Jan. 27, 1945.

Interesting - I also yesterday read about Captain Witold Pilecki and his sacrifice, as a Catholic, to go undercover into the most horrible concentration camp to gather information and try to help those incarcerated, and how he later was executed by the communists after the war.
