And they have a pretty big fan base. Hopefully this will wake some people up and they might think twice about eating beef again.

Sometimes satire and other forms of comedy can make a point in a way it otherwise couldn't be made.

Isn't it a pity that such a large percentage of the human population, especially in the USA, have been brought up to not recognize or appreciate satire or other forms of dark humor?

I personally consider the ability to recognize and appreciate it a mark of intelligence. I'm not sure it bodes well for the future of the human race that there are so many people regularly confused, shocked or outraged by the Onion.

I wonder if a lot of people are brought up to fake so much, eg patriotism, that when they are confronted by deliberate satirical fakery, they get really confused.

It makes it confusing when there are people out there that seem like they must be joking, but aren't (like Scientologists, or right wing pundits, or creationists...)

But The Onion is great.
