I think Dropkicks Pangolin hypothesis makes a lot of sense 
Of course, it might also be a case of karma upon karma, as the pangolin, having eaten insects, gets eaten by humans.
I am not sure if I put much belief in Karma.
There are lots of people who are by no means nice persons, who do have lots of financial success. (Don't know about their spiritual well-being, though.)
