Secret vegan handshake?

Is there a secret vegan handshake? How do you do it?

If you Google the search term "secret vegan handshake" you'll get plenty of hits.

You know you’re a vegan when… you use the Vulcan’s hand greeting and salutation “live long and prosper” with all your veg*n friends. The Vulcan’s were vegetarian don’t you know. It has become the secret vegan handshake.

(Emphasis added.)

You Know You’re A Vegan When…

(Technically, this might be the secret veg*n handshake.)

IS: Some follow-on remarks.

First, if you Googled the phrase "secret vegan handshake" and then read through the hits, you'd find that some people just use it to make a joke or to deny there is such a thing. So perhaps there is no agreed definition of what it is or might be.

Second, the Vulcan hand gesture is a hand gesture, not a handshake strictly speaking.

Third, since you do get hits when you google "secret vegan handshake," it is being openly discussed, so perhaps it is not very secret after all.

Thank you for your thoughts, Joe! I should have thought of the Star Trek "V" greeting.

More generally, how do vegans identify other vegans at social events, at the workplace, and other places?

I bumped this thread to tell you a story. We had a meeting of our environmental group last week. One of the fellows who works in the office where we met had his seven year old daughter with him, a cute little blonde girl named Violet, who was wearing glasses and jumping around, full of energy. All of a sudden, she splits her fingers in a V (like Spock) and says to us, "Live Long and Prosper." She seems to have selected this as an all purpose greeting, good for all occasions. I told her her hand symbol was also the secret vegan hand signal. She also got to meet the president of our group, John, a vegan.
