Here is something stupid

Yikes!

I'm little puzzled by the easing up of restrictions when the health officials are all saying these new strains are even more contagious and that we should be double-masking now. It's happening in my state. Yes, overall numbers have gone down a bit, but every time they ease up on the restrictions, the numbers go up. I'm wondering if my governor has COVID fatigue! He was talking about letting more people gather in houses of worship. It doesn't make sense to me.

Interesting...I heard type A people were more likely to get seriously ill with covid.

We got the UK mutation in our town now too, so we are probably heading to a lockdown now. Our borders did close on Friday, so some people can't get to work from Sweden to Norway.

I saw a woman wrote that they went into a lockdown in Australia now because of one case. I wonder if they really fight this the right way. Take it at once, then live life as normal until next case and closed borders. I wonder if the mental health would handle it better...

In California the restrictions are tied into the statistics on a county-by-county level*. In my county and the surrounding ones we have been seeing the number of new cases and the number of hospitalizations going down again. that allows for the restrictions to ease up.

But this see-sawing doesn't seem like it is a good idea. although we had weeks of lock down - I guess you just can't keep it up indefinitely.

We have colored coded "tiers" and I can never get them straight. So I just always keep myself in the highest restrictions.

Meanwhile those protestors are beyond stupid. its bad enough that they won't get vaccinated. Now the won't let other people?

* The County Supervisors do have a little leeway.

I just looked up the latest studies. They’re contradictory so far. Some show no correlation between outcome and blood type. Others show that those with type O blood are at lower risk.

What's kinda interesting is that type O is the meateater of the Blood Type Diet world :joy:

...and I'd like to know how they're studying diet--who's being questioned on their diet when they test positive?

The Blood Type Diet thing is a bunch of pseudoscience, just like blood type personalities. I would say it’s been debunked, but it was never based on any evidence to begin with.

I’m sure you know that, but it’s still worth mentioning.

And I know what you mean about the COVID research. There are so many confounding variables that could affect the samples these days. There’s a lot that we won’t know until later.

You do get asked about your diet when you’re admitted to a hospital, though. That could be where some of that data is coming from. (Even then, it would be skewed by the factors affecting who goes to the hospital and who doesn’t.)

So in downtown San Mateo they closed some streets and put dining rooms in the streets. On other streets they turned parking spots to dining rooms. The city council has just voted to extend the street closures and "Parklets" till September and then they may extend it indefinitely.

We’ve got the same thing going on in NYC. Some people are mad at de Blasio for extending it indefinitely without public input.

They do that in DeLand too. Many places already had outdoor seating on the sidewalks but now they shut down one of the side streets to provide more space. Of course in Florida and Southern California, this is a practical option to provide distancing.

asking for healing thoughts for my niece, her husband and 7 kids - they are missionaries in Mexico and it seems that Dad must have picked up Covid about a week or so ago and thought he just had a cold - then Mom got sick and went for the test and it came back positive - 4 of the children are also not feeling good so it is likely the others will get it also - a doctor is coming to their home on a daily basis so that is good and I have recommended that they ask him for some NAC (n-acetyl cysteine) as it is an anti-inflammatory

also, while you are sending healing thoughts another of my nephews and his wife had a new baby two weeks ago and the babe is currently having a 5 hour surgery for heart/aortic/valve/hole surgery at Sick Kids in Toronto

thank you!

This is what has me concerned:

I’m staying in, but I have some internet friends who’ve had COVID. It sounds bad.

It’s terrible that about 1/3 of those infected will have lasting lung damage. That’s nothing to take lightly. We’ll only find out how bad it is later on.

The US has 26,782,835 cases on record right now. If 1/3 have lasting, serious lung damage, that’s 8.9 million people.

But, with some asymptomatic people also getting lung damage, that means new cases will only become evident later on when the lung problems show up. So maybe 10 million Americans will have serious lung damage from this?

And at least 35 million worldwide, based on the current numbers? (103,720,228 positive cases on record.)

My husband just got another Covid alert on the app!
I've deleted this idiotic app from my phone.

Why?

Because it always says "no risky contacts".

"No risky contacts" - my ***. I'm working in a hospital and I definitely have contact with COVID positive patients! (Of course these patients don't carry around their smartphones after having confirmed that they tested positive...)

I had the same experience with our local COVID alert app. Ours was useless unless you had Location Services on and let it access that data 24/7. That drains a lot of energy. It wasn’t really worth it.
