Vegan Brand Beyond Meat Triples Production, Creating 100s of Jobs at New Factory

California-based vegan meat company Beyond Meat has announced the opening of a new production facility in Columbia, Missouri. The new facility will more than triple Beyond Meat’s current manufacturing footprint in order to meet high demand for the company’s products.

“This expansion in our production capacity will help us to meet the considerable increase in market demand we have seen for our new and innovative product offerings,” Mark Nelson, chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Beyond Meat, said in a press release.“Our expanded 100,000-sq-ft manufacturing footprint will provide the scale we need to service our rapidly growing retail, foodservice, and international customer base.”

In addition to ramping up production of popular Beyond Meat products like the vegan Beyond Burger and the Beyond Sausage, the company expects that the new production facility will create more than 250 new jobs this year.

Plant based foods are gaining popularity with omnis, but mostly as add-ons, and I'm not seeing any shifts towards veganism.
Like in the natural food stores, and Trader Joes and WF's in particular, you find so many new offering that seem to include just enough animal based food to keep it from vegans, like honey, carmine, fish stuff
Still happy people are becoming aware that a plant based diet can be life changing, just hope they go far enough to realize they need to go all the way

I bought a pack of the BM burgers at Whole Foods during my holiday in CA. I must say that they are by far the best
faux meat burgers that I've ever tasted.

They also have a very slight distinct meat flavour to them. I would say that it's due
to the beetroot that is added to the ingredients.

Mercadona's aubergine/eggplant burgers which are available everywhere in Spain are excellent too and Ikea's veggie balls are good. Spain, like France, can be hard work for vegans but it has the best climate in Europe and food is generally cheap and of good quality.

I’m still annoyed over the lack of availability of their sausage. The burgers are in abundance, however, but I’ve decided I’m not really a fan.

I really enjoyed my first Beyond Burger but have totally lost interest since. I think I've had them maybe four times and each time was less good.
I would love to try the sausages though . I think smoked Slovenian sausage is the one meat thing I sorta miss, and certainly not the 'meat' part, but the flavors.

That is a surprise but the price comparison changes daily with the exchange rate, I suppose. I like France but we haven't been for a couple of years now. Nowadays we get the ferry direct from Santander to the UK. The journey through France is a bit too long. However the boat is French.

Food has always been more expensive in France. Moreover we have high taxes so it's unless you are mortgage or rent free it's very difficult to live a decent life.

Beyond Burger seems to be found in the meat section of most stores, so would truly be a feat for veg'ns to find it! The first time I bought it I saw it in a sale ad and had to ask if they had since it was not anywhere near the tofu! It was next to hamburger . Now I don't really want it, but I was curious if other stores carried it as I've never seen it, and yes they do, next to fresh hamburger!.
I am really glad people are incorporating plant based foods in their diet. I've always felt veganism has a far better chance of being mainstreamed by making the foods normalized. I mean, look at non dairy milks- just 10 years ago they were looked upon as disgusting and weird, now they've taken over the diary aisles.
I do wish they were stocked in both the meat section and the plant based sections

I agree. As a veg*an I absolutely loathe going past the meat aisle and would like to have a separate section when looking for PB food.
However, it is a good thing to have plant based food in an meat aisle, as it may well tempt some omnis to try plant based food.
My local hypermarket just 'throws' the plant based food in between the omni stuff. It's similar to looking for a needle in a haystack. The aisles are huge and there is far too much food on display.

I remember that at one time, they had 2 Gardein products ; beef less mince and chicken less strips. In their flyer, they translated the products as 'minced beef' and 'chicken fillets'. It would seem that the buyers don't even know what they are selling when they introduce new products.

Don’t really know Slovenian smoked sausage, but have you tried Tofurkey’s “Kielbasa”? That is one I find awesome.

That! While I also understand that the overall impact is higher if meat-eaters (of which there are many more) occasionally get the vegan stuff, I also loathe that I have to search for my vegan protein among all the dead animal products...

In the UK it is more or less separate. Waitrose and Sainsbury's have different sections for PB food with distinct signs.

They have to cater for all types of consumers. At least they are trying to do their best.

Oh, that said, I REALLY do like the “Beyond Meat” burger.

Not really sure whether it tastes exactly like a dead animal burger, as I had the last one some 25 years ago, but it just has a really rounded, juicy taste. Many veggie burgers are dry and crumbly.

It is not yet commercially available in Germany yet, but I have teamed up with some local vegans a few times and visited the “Metro” wholesale chain (together with one of them in possession of a valid access card) to jointly buy one of the 42-burger cartons and share them.

That said, EUR 2,50 (USD 3) for one burger patty is not exactly cheap.

BM are by far the best products that are on the market. They don't taste like beef, however they are moist and so delicious.

I just made Beyond Meat burgers that had been from the freezer. I like to press them much thinner and cook well done.
They're sometimes buy one get one free so one pack gets frozen. No difference thawed.
I still need to try the sausage! I have had Tofurky keilbasa- long time ago- it certainly didn't make an impact on me! I don't see Tofurky stuff where I shop now. Maybe I just don't look

There is currently a genuine Beyond Burger craze in Germany.

After the success of the IPO, there has been a higher brand awareness, and one of Germany’s leading low-cost supermarket chains, Lidl, announced some weeks ago that they will offer a double pack of Beyond Burger patties at a price of EUR 5 per pack as a limited special offer this week.

Seems they sold out in all locations in the first half hour, and Lidl have announced they will have further batches. There were even Facebook posts urging vegans to leave the burgers to meat-eaters, otherwise, how can they get converted, with the majority of vegans, however, not really agreeing with that idea ...
