I don't know if this is a secret or by now a well know fact but Last train is the Monkee's anti-war song.
also despite them being sort of fake, they had some great songs that have stood up to the test of time.

Mostly my contemporaries didn't like them. but my friends and I would try to find someplace to get stoned and watch them on TV. TVs were all located at our parents house so it provided a bit of a challenge. None of us had TVs in our bedrooms back then so sometimes I had to watch the show with someone else's parents. We found that the higher we got the funnier they were.
