If you have any advice for me please...
I have been a vegetarian 10 years, vegan 3 years and I hate taste of almost all the foods (not just vegan but any food and drinks, I do supplement though).
I cant get over the fact that even vegan food is poisonus, full of chemicals and with fake ingredients, plus they use animal manure and their remains to grow vegs and plants, I hate it. I dont trust those vegan organic brands much either, everything seems like a scam if you research it. I live in a city on a below minimum wage and cant grow my own food. Please help, recommend some food that will keep me full during the day so I dont have to eat much and think about it all. TY <3

well... there is breatharianism. but I don't recommend it.

one thought: you do some research and find a vegan farm, (veganic farming) and apply for a job there and move in. or buy food in bulk from them. It's said that a person can survive on just beans and rice.

Maybe they will trade you food and board for work on the farm.

I don't know why you think vegan food is poisonous. Animal manure might be used as fertilizer, but it is broken down into the chemicals that originally made it up by the time it's absorbed by a plant. A molecule of water, or an atom of nitrogen or carbon, which was once part of manure is absolutely clean and harmless by the time it's absorbed by a plant.

I don't know where you live, but in most places, there are regulations against using chemicals on plants or on the food made from them, unless those substances are believed to be safe in the amounts they are eaten. If you have misgivings about certain foods, you can avoid them. But one way or another, you must eat. We all have food preferences (I don't like cilantro, for example), but to hate the taste of almost all foods is not normal. I'm not a health care provider- but it sounds like you may have an eating disorder. You cannot live for long on supplements; a severe eating disorder is life-threatening.

Please let us know how you're doing.

welcome to the forum

frozen vegetables combined with canned rinsed beans on rice or potatoes

rolled oats combined with frozen berries, banana, nuts, seeds, even beans can be added

bread with peanut butter, jam, banana

there really is no need to buy "vegan" processed food if you don't wish to most food is vegan on it's own - I have posted this before...

Supermarkets are mostly vegan by default:
  • all produce aisles - fresh fruits and vegetables and herbs
  • frozen aisles - frozen fruits, vegetables
  • bean aisles - canned beans, dried beans, breakfast beans
  • canned fruits and vegetables
  • pasta aisle - most pastas and sauces, noodles
  • condiments aisle - vinegars, olives, pickles, ketchup, soy sauce, hot sauces, mustard, tahini
  • snack and bulk aisle - nuts, dried fruits, nutritional yeast, various grains, some potato chips
  • cereal aisle - oatmeal, Spoon Size Shredded Wheat, Shredded Wheat etc
  • beverage aisle - sparkling water, herbal teas, coffee
  • bakery aisle - sprouted breads, pitas, tortillas
  • dairy aisle - tofu, plant-based milks
  • and there is so much more

Hi, Elena! I use a lot of inexpensive convenience foods on my vegan journey. Good canned vegs, frozen vegs and rice and quinoa, boxes and bags of stuff like pretzels, crackers, chips. Check ingredients, and watch for too much salt or sugar. Look for good protein and fiber. Than, make some of your own stuff--good salsas and dips and nut butters. Use a Cuisinart, or good blender, or just chop yourself--freeze, then transfer to the fridge, and use your crackers, chips, etc., and make a meal. Use some tofu, for protein. Also, canned beans, and lentils, even oatmeal has good protein. Make savory oatmeal, adding spices, nuts, dried fruits, even canned vegs! Get creative! Make it easy and fun. : )

@Tom L. At the risk of increasing. @ElenaLove's insecurity, I want to say that although I don't agree with her conclusions, I think her premises are valid.

I don't know why you think vegan food is poisonous.
Lots of our foods is to a degree "poisonous" using the word literally. We do think of poisons working rapidly but we also know that if something is going to harm you down the line - it is a poison

Take Glyphosate for example. we know it's a pesticide that is used on our crops. And we know that it causes damage to human beings. And we know it's been found on foods in the supermarket and in what is considered unsafe levels. Last year there was a flap when Glyphosate was discovered in organic oats, but at lower levels and further testing is showing that the levels are going down. Glyphosate is just one of the many chemicals that is creeping into our food supply.
oh, don't forget Chlormequat,

then there are the Forever Chemicals, PFAS's. They are being found in our food too.

Animal manure might be used as fertilizer, but it is broken down into the chemicals ...
I don't think her concern about manure is about the manure. It's part of the animal rights thing: Not exploiting animals. A lot of vegans (including myself) think this is carrying the stance against animal exploitation a little too far. But not all vegans do. Therefore they have invented and created a market for vegan organic farming - Animal Free Agriculture. There are maybe 100 vegan organic farms in the US.
I don't know where you live, but in most places, there are regulations against using chemicals on plants or on the food made from them, unless those substances are believed to be safe

That's more true in Europe and the US but there are thousands of chemicals being allowed to enter our food system. They are well regulated but the system is far from perfect.
one way or another, you must eat.
yes. and echoing the principles of veganism. you do what is practical and possible.
Not eating is not practical. a person can minimize the risks by following a Whole Foods Diet and buying organic products as often as possible and practical.

@Lou I was trying to keep my post reasonably brief, but I do agree with your points above. One common example of a poison in foods is apple seeds, which contain cyanide. One apple core is harmless- but I remember reading about one unfortunate person who considered apple seeds a delicacy, and inadvertently poisoned himself when he saved a whole cupful of them to eat at one sitting. I was thinking that her concern about manure is that it was unsanitary, but I could be wrong.

@beancounter : Could be! I've seen a lot of them on other boards, but not so much here.

lets leave aside apple seeds, cherry pits, raw kidney beans, and green potatoes.
Those things are easily avoided once you know about them.
and just concentrate on the chemicals used in modern agriculture - like Glyphosate (round up) which is sprayed on all nonorganic corn, beans and oats.

@Lou I've been dimly aware of Glyphosate, but now I'm thinking maybe I should be paying more attention. In particular, I eat a lot of oats (as well as wheat). I just googled "glyphosate" and found that it is commonly used on those two crops.
Whole grains--esp oats--are one thing I always buy organic because of glyphosate. I try and pick my battles, and feel that's a good one to choose
When you have a tendency to obsess It's best to make choices, IMO. Worrying about everything causes stress, which is as bad as any food choice.
Eating good conventional fruits and veggies is far better than not eating them. Their health benefits outweigh the sprays

Mod Post:

It's the season of goodwill, so let's try and be kind to each other.

How can a question about food trigger comments about US politics and opinions? It's a particular trend on our forum to bring politics into various threads that have nothing to do with the former. Moreover, we have at least two ongoing threads on politics, including the US one.

Why assume that a member is a Trump lover or hater because they have asked a question? Mind boggling!

As we don't have a strict policy to moderate speech, (as long as it doesn't promote hate, violence or medical issues,) feel free to discuss American political leaders and their policies on the following thread:

I did a bit of googling about Glyphosate, AKA Roundup. I don't remember everything I found, but evidently neither the EPA nor the FDA consider this herbicide to be a problem so long as it's used as recommended:

Edited to add: I forgot to mention that animals can suffer illness if they eat or touch plants that have been freshly-sprayed with the stuff.
