I'm torn on this. In the 90's, everyone knew the dangers of smoking and it was his choice to do it. I'm sorry, but if you smoke, you don't have the right to complain if you get lung cancer or emphysema. But, on the other hand, I really hate cigarettes and the tobacco companies, and would love to see a million more lawsuits like this to hopefully put them out of business.
When I was working in an office, there was nothing worse than when the smokers came back from their break. We would be stuck sitting there, smelling that awful cigarette smoke stink.
12 people actually agreed with the $24 billion? That kind of money simply isn't reasonable. I never thought there would be 12 people in the entire world who would agree with the $24 billion.
RJR will drag the case through the appeals courts for as long as necessary, and the widow won’t get a penny. The tobacco companies have the advantage of billions of dollars and a lot of high-priced lawyers at their disposal to intimidate and discourage individuals from filing such lawsuits. They won’t allow this case to be an anomaly. They’ll fight to the death (of the plaintiffs).
