News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

While not easy to say, despite being a wingnut, Pence did come off as being better put together and prepared for this debate.

I think they both played to their party's base well enough.

IMO, the Dems should have known that Pence would play up the family values angle and the whole religion thing. They should have prepared Kaine to attack his record on "after-birth" things like head start, affordable child care, etc.

Essentially they could have demonstrated typical Republican hypocrisy. "So you care about a fetus, but once the child is born, you could care less.

They should have also pointed out that the religious freedom bill may have allowed a child abuser to walk free.

Just a couple of thoughts. There is just so much they could have nailed him on.

^ I didn't actually see any of the debate, apart from a bit about Trump and his taxes. I agree that Pence came across better.

I was watching the British Conservative party conference footage on TV yesterday and they did a (very unscientific) survey about who the Conservatives attending the conference supported out of Trump and Clinton. People seemed to overwhelmingly support HC. Conservatives in the UK traditionally support the Republican party.

Pence presented himself as cool, calm and collected.

And for anyone listening to what he was saying, he also presented himself as a liar. In many cases, he flat out denied that Trump (and in some cases Pence himself) had said the words they said, and that are on tape for anyone to hear. In the cases where he didn't outright lie, he answered a question that wasn't asked, 0n a topic not remotely related to the question actually asked.

Nailed it... He dodged the questions he didn't like and used his Evangelical craziness to try to earn brownie points with the other "Christian" crazies. Was his wonderful "Religious Freedom Act" even mentioned? I hope you read that last sentence in a sarcasm-laced voice :D

I'm so sickened by this election. read through some twitters that truly shows just how deplorable -and proud of it-rumps supporters are. It's really the cult that scares me because they're not going away. They've denounced civility, encouraged bullying and privilege, and twisted 'religious freedom' into a dog whistle for white christian male domination.
These tapes only highlight what was already known about rump.
I'm a little scared of what Assange may try and leak about HRC.
Getting the vote out is more (and less really) important than ever

Trump is not sorry for his comments, but rather for getting caught on tape ...

He tries to explain it away as "Locker room talk" as if it was the most normal thing among men to talk like that.
However, as usual, I guess that his supporters will not care much about it... :yuck:

There is a difference between his supporters and all the people who might vote for him on election day. The more negative revelations like this we get about him before said day, the smaller will this latter group be.

People who dislike Hillary will have a surprisingly high tolerance for Trumps comments. He's promising lower taxes and bringing blue collar jobs back, and that's all both groups you mentioned care about.

After the news media gets tired of reporting this incident, his numbers will swing back to where they were.

Agree.
He is probably more credible on the lower taxes (for the super rich at least) than on his ability to bring back blue collar jobs.
My impression is that people who vote for him based on the latter would be rather gullible.

While driving I listened to a right wing radio talk and the majority of callers couldn't care less. A few callers were quite adamant about the right for men to be "men"
More were angered about the election being 'rigged', with the Bushes holding this back until just before debate. They're convinced the Clintons are far worse

Well, if they actually let him build a wall, he'll be able to claim that he created a bunch of new blue collar jobs.:p:rolleyes:

I'm not worried about Assage, I don't think he has anything. He already claimed he had something, but it turned out to be an infomercial for his book. :p

If anything, this made him even greater in their eyes.

I'm kind of bemused about how much traction the 1995 tape is getting in the news and among the GOP establishment. It's as though they haven't been paying attention, at all, to all of the horrible things Trump has been saying and doing all along.

I mean, really, people! How can you possibly be the least bit surprised? This is who Trump is, and always has been. He hasn't made a secret of it.

In the 2004 interview with Stern, Trump tells the host that "My daughter is beautiful, Ivanka," to which Stern interjects, “by the way, your daughter.” Trump finishes Stern’s sentence by repeating “she’s beautiful.”

“Can I say this? A piece of ***,” Stern says in the clip. “Yeah,” Trump replies.

In another clip uncovered by CNN, this one from 2006, Stern asks Trump, “did your daughter get breast implants?” The real estate mogul replied that “no, she didn’t. I mean, I would know if she did. The answer is no. Why, did she look a little more stacked?”

“She looks more voluptuous than ever,” Stern said.

“No, she didn’t get them,” Trump said. “She’s actually always been very voluptuous.”

I'm glad I'm not the only one who listens to these stations while driving from time to time. I often listen to the weird and creepy Coast to Coast while driving home at night, so when I get in my car the next day, I'm on a Faux news station. I don't know why I do it to myself sometimes, but I hear some interesting and disturbing things.

I mentioned in another post that I messaged one of them about their rant that PETA (though I'm not a supporter of them) wants to come into your house and take your pets. Yeah right, that's going to happen. Never got a response back. I mentioned they went to the extreme scare tactics but I guess they didn't want to hear it.
