well, I think the live subtitlers can edit as they go along, but the whole thing is quite a hurried process, and there are lots of mistakes.....when a new name is news there isn't always time to enter the name into the speech recognition software, so the computer looks for the closest name, I suppose, which is often a celebrity or someone else who has been in the news.
I didn't think Fox News, did subtitling at all....it all costs money......In the UK I think the laws says that certain channels have to do a certain amount of subtitling....I think the BBC has try to subtitle all its programs; Sky only a certain percent....It would cost even more if they had to employ someone to edit the subtitles.
