I am not sure what "social housing" would be in the US. There is very very little low income housing here and years long waiting lists and strict qualifications. This is why there is such a bad homeless problem.
The last time I tried to apply for food stamps which you do online then have to have a phone interview, I was never able to get connected for the phone interview. The system is broken all the time and I also make too much money right now anyway. You have to be really poor to qualify.
It's ridiculous how poor you have to be to get help here.
