This is a killer jam! Rumor has it that Janis died the day before she was scheduled to lay down the vocals for it. Frankly, I love it just as is. :D

OMG, a few years ago, I was directing a show & this song was on repeat in my car the entire time. There are lyrics, but I dig this version....

I adore this haunting tune, heard many versions... here's incomparable Ella again....

And now, dammit, I need to liven the mood with somethin' livlier & danceable, methinks....

(I know I've posted this stuff elsewhere... who cares, right? It's home, now.)

And now... just 'cuz I called these bass-tastic artists in to the local public radio station (it's Nightside Jazz & Blues, sick of hearing the same crap)....

Victor f*cking Wooten! -- He used to be Bela Fleck's bass player... jesus, what a talent....

Esperanza Spalding & Herbie Hancock (himself honored) honoring Sting... couldn't find what I was looking for from E.S., must make food....

This is brief & beautiful.

Anthony Dominick Benedetto, otherwise known as Tony Bennett, is 91!! :D

I've always preferred him to Frank... his phrasing has always been impeccable. And I never knew he did this here! LOL

Just trying to make a mental list here.... I have collected work from certain favorite artists, most on CD, not on my phone... need to search for them.

Collections of:
  • Robert Johnson
  • Bessie Smith
  • Benny Goodman
  • B.B. King
  • Ella Fitzgerald
  • Dinah Washington
  • Etta James
  • Billie Holiday
  • Aretha Franklin
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Janis Joplin
  • Eric Clapton
  • Stevie Ray Vaughn
  • Bela Fleck (and the Flecktones)
  • Django Reinhardt (with Stephan Grappelli)
  • Got a mix of stuff with Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, et al....
  • Another one with all blues legends....
---- This is a running list for me to refer to so I can search for my missing music... in boxes, bags, the back room, the garage, etc....
My dad gave me a live Stan Getz CD. It's freakin awesome, I must say. It was the first CD I listened to when I moved into my new home. :) Nice list, by the way. :)

Funk Band Behind 'Amen Break' Drum Riff Receives Long Overdue Notoriety
The Amen break is a drum riff that's been sampled in more than 2,000 songs by artists as diverse as N.W.A. and David Bowie. It was created some 50 years ago by a funk and soul band called The Winstons, and they've finally started getting some recognition.

You know the one.... we've all heard it, countless times.... this riff right here:

And here's how to play it... slow, then fast:

You're posting from a list of some sort?? Noooo.... :lala: I just can't stand Thorogood.... LMAO

(Personal opinion, that's all.) ;)

Yes, list.

If you go to the following URL (which VV's software has scrambled somewhat--I think you have to be on the YouTube.com website to see the list)

You will see the YouTube video of Etta James singing "At Last." (Number 1 on the list.) To the right of that on the screen is the printed list of the top 100 Blues songs, according to whomever made this list. Each song has sort of a logo, and if you click on that the video of the song comes up and plays.
