Jerry Sandusky Trial

I think he will be found guilty on pretty much all counts. If he isn't I will lose what remaining faith I have in the judicial system.

He has 52 charges against him. I think it's likely that the prosecution has included some charges that they probably don't have enough evidence to prove.

I think he'll be convicted of enough charges that he's not going to be seen outside of prison ever again, but if he's not convicted of every charge, I'm not going to lose my faith in the justice system. The justice system is built on the government having to prove guilt. That's a good thing.

Convictions on victim #2 (the one never identified) and #6 (victim wasn't clear enough on what crimes may have been committed) are the least likely. The others look very solid.

I have been following this story from the beginning and its too awful for words....its heartbreaking and makes me sick.....even worse if his wife and other people at the school knew.....

peace

I agree with your assessment and I think the prosecution has done a pretty good job to date. At one point I had read that there were several victims going all the way back to the 70's when Sandusky initially founded his organization to 'help underpriveleged kids' but then never heard more about it. I think that such testimony would prove invaluable as it would confirm that he started the organization with the specific intent of gaining access to young boys.

For South park fans, Amendola effectively went with the "Chewbacca Defense". "It just don't make sense!"
(Note: link to Chewbacca Defense. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chewbacca_defense )

I actually read on a PSU message board where some of their fans were arguing that the rapes couldn't have happened, and one attorney was essentially saying "if the dick don't fit, you must acquit."

SMH.

Yeah, I'm really glad Sandusky's lawyers went with the 'it's all a big conspiracy' defense as that only serves to help the prosecution.

I also read today that one of Sandusky's adopted sons was ready to take the witness stand against his dad if Sandusky himself testified on his own behalf. I'm not sure why he would place that condition on it, unless he thought that hearing his dad lie on the witness stand would be the last straw and he couldn't bear to hear it. At any rate, after the prosecution told Sandusky's lawyers about the possibility of his son testifying against him, they decided not to put Sandusky on the stand.

After hearing Sandusky's interview with Bob Costas in November, especially the unaired parts that are available now, I can certainly understand his lawyers not wanting him to speak.

Speculation is that Matt Sandusky could not be called earlier as his testimony would not have corroborated any of the crimes for which Sandusky is charged, but that he would be able to impeach certain defenses Sandusky might bring up regarding the stories told by the victims.

Ahhh okay, that makes sense.

I believe it was victim #4 who testified that Matt was in the shower room with them prior to his assault, but got suddenly very nervous and left after his dad playfully threw a bar of soap at him.

To me that screams: "Get out of here son I'm gonna have me some fun with this one".

But I'm just speculating.

It now appears that Sandusky's adopted son Matt was one of his victims as well, not that anyone will be surprised by that.

I tend to believe that he is telling the truth, and perhaps waited till after the trial began to see which way it was going to go.

Maybe he was afraid to come forward against his dad until he was certain he was going to jail?

Or he just realized it was the right thing to do - that if all of the others could withstand the public scrutiny and everything that goes with it, he could too.

It's especially hard for a family member to come forward, though - they often lose their entire family over their *betrayal* of the perpetrator. I've seen it happen all too often - even other siblings wwho were also abused will blame the one who comes forward for *destroying the family*.

:sadnod: So sad.

I watched it on HLN and TTV during my stay in the US
. I hope he will be found guilty as there is evidence through the witnesses that have testified.

It also beats me how his wife is staying by his side.

I've been reading a lot on this, and all I keep wondering is why nobody said anything all these years. I understand why the victims did not come forward, I understand the wife not saying anything (although I in no way condone it), I understand various people not wanting to get involved... But only individually. With the amount of people who knew/had indications, why the heck didn't just one of them do something?!

People suck.

The fact that the verdict(s) have not come back yet worries me a bit.

I know I probably seem a bit obsessed with this case but people have to understand that for a lot of us this trial provides at least some small opportunity for closure. The striking similarities with the Catholic Church are undeniable... the big organization that seeks to cover up the crimes of it's favored sons... all the boys who never felt that they could speak up for themselves. The outcome of this trial may very well give some people a little bit of peace.

I need to know now!!! :p

Perfectly understandable.

I worry, because there are apparently still quite a few local people who are standing behind the university rather blindly, much as so many stood behind the Catholic Church for so long with respect to the sexual molestation by clergy and the accompanying coverups.
