Jerry Sandusky Trial

A guilty verdict on most/all counts would be an indicator that things have changed/are changing - that it's no longer acceptable to turn a blind eye on sexual molestation, to make excuses for it, to favor the perpetrators over the victims, to fall into line to protect the public image of the powerful, whether they be individuals or institutions. It would be a statement that it's not O.K. to blame or shame those who are molested.

It's not enough, but it's a beginning.

This is good. I hope he's finally realizing the severity of what he's done. I hope he feels like absolute and utter ****.

I suspect he's in deep, deep denial. IME, most molesters are. From the bits I've seen of letters he wrote to some of the boys, he fancied himself in love with them.

I will never understand how some people can think like this and not realize there's something fundamentally wrong with them.

I think it's just as well if one cannot wrap one's mind around some things. At least that's the conclusion I've eventually come to.

Indeed.

I wasn't really following this case very closely but I've seen bits of it here and there, and I'm glad that dumbass got what he deserved.

****ing **** *** ****...

I can't even tell you how much this verdict means to me. Me and every young boy I have ever known who was abused by the likes of Sandusky... and had their childhood torn away from them... there is no possible way that I can express right now how much this trial at least in some small way helped to vindicate us all. I really can't. I'm bawling my eyes out right now. I only wish that he could be fried for what he did.

**** **** and ****.

I don't even know what to say. This must be so amazing for you right now.

So happy to see him found guilty, just wish it had happened years ago.
I read that people outside cheered so loudly at the verdict, they could be heard in the courtroom.

I was sooo hippie to hear he was found guilty and hope he gets life and or worse....and that all his victims get the help they need to deal with the issues they are gonna be carrying around the rest of their lives because of this evil man.

peace:)

All in all it's been a good couple of weeks for child sex abuse survivors. We had ourselves some Texas justice... we had our first ever conviction of a catholic bishop for knowingly protecting pedophile priests, and of course we had the Sandusky convictions. I'm especially elated at the catholic church conviction because it sends a stern warning to those who look the other way. I think (or at least I hope) that it's the beginning of the end for these guys... and considering the many thousands of young boys who have been abused in the name of God... a long long time coming.

It is good, it's sickening how much the church covered this crap up over the years and just how much of it went on. It's almost like a culture of abusers who looked after themselves and made sure others like them got put into the church hierarchy to keep the coverup going.

The part I don't understand Forster is how the catholic church historically has handled this. If a bishop found out that a priest was abusing young boys, the 'punishment' typically was to remove them from that parrish and relocate them into another. Like... hey let's put you into a new parrish with a whole new set of young boys to abuse? That's not a punishment... that's a reward!

Oddly enough, they were, at the same time, going around flaying people for much less.

Absolutely my friend, and the hypocrisy bothers me almost as much as the act itself. The very same priests who were teaching me all about how masturbation is wrong, pre-marital sex is wrong, and homosexuality is wrong... were the same ones who were telling me that 'if I love God I'll drop my pants'. It's all just so freaking wierd and twisted that I can barely wrap my mind around it even now. This is why I don't like Republicans also. :p

I know, that's why I truly believe a number of the bishops were former abusers themselves they looked out for one another. Anyone on the inside of the church hierarchy who spoke out against the abuse was put in their place. Also how better to keep the abusers quiet, reward them after extracting promises of to never sin again, or turn them over to the authorities and risk a public scandal. I have no doubt Rome knew the abuse was widespread and rampant and sent the marching orders to cover it up both to stave off the financial loss and religious crisis. The choices the church made were truly evil and I hope everyone of them that made those choices is held accountable.
