TV & Film Movie Lounge

On the other hand, we also watched "Deadpool" and that definitely was a really funny movie - in a Tarantino kind of way.
R rated, which is not often something a major studio will accept in a movie that is basically one of the "X-men" franchise. We definitely liked that one (ok, likely I liked it more than my wife did, but she watched it with me and admitted that it was quite funny).

Best regards,
Andy

Jurassic World review:

Jurassic World (2015)

I've seen Jurassic Park a hundred times and love it. I finally bought it on DVD. Despite not really liking the second and third movies in the series, I decided to watch the fourth now that it's on cable TV. I missed the first 25 minutes but decided to watch the rest of the movie anyway.

OMG what an awful movie! The worst in the series, and I understand there are more to come. Bad acting, bad writing, cardboard characters doing ridiculous things, blatant product placement, and the whole movie plays out almost exactly like the first one. Very predictable, and for the budget they had, they still couldn't make the gunfire look real?

Unless you're a masochist who loves dinosaur movies, don't bother with this one.

I will say I liked all of the Jurassic park movies. I agree the last one wasn't as good as the first three but I did enjoy it.

Hehe .... that somehow reminds me of a work colleague who complained that "Fast and Furious 7" had a weak / unlogical storyline (compared to the earlier 6 :D)

Mind you, I liked the first Jurassic Park movie when it came out. I think that in the second the main work was on thinking up how they could best display Mercedes Benz' new range of SUVs and the story took second seat to that. And the last one ... well, even my kids were appalled by the lack of logic. And that is saying something, as they are big dinosaur fans...

Watched The Full Monty yesterday.

Nice, but was expecting a bit more after this was touted as one of the best recent comedies.

Watched "The Hateful Eight" yesterday.

Well ... while I am not exactly a Tarantino expert, this struck me as a very typical movie for him ... great acting with many popular and some new-coming actors, sometimes outrageous story, lots of bodily fluids and gratuitous violence involved.

It was less funny than some of his other movies I have seen, but definitely intense, also thanks to the small circle of actors, more "theater-like". So definitely endorsed to everybody who likes Tarantino. I personally would have preferred more of his usual black humor like in "Pulp Fiction" or "Inglorious Basterds", but it was definitely not wasted time.

Wow, looking at the cast list now, I just realized that I had not even identified Channing Tatum - who is typically one of the more easily identified actors.

IMO stellar performances by Samuel Jackson, Kurt Russel, Tim Roth and Bruce Dern. Michael Madsens and Demian Bichirs parts were rather small, Jennifer Jason Leigh's role was a bit limited. I did not know Walton Goggins before, but he is definitely an actor to watch.
