News Obituaries

Do you mean women like Nancy Sinatra and Christy Brinkley, who both appeared in Playboy and praised him after his death?

Ted Bundy had fangirls. So does Charles Manson. IOW, why do you think it's meaningful that some individuals like someone who is awful by any objective standards?!

I do not agree with your "awful by any objective standards" remark. That may be your opinion, but it is just that--an opinion.

Ted Bundy and Charles Manson had real victims. In contrast, Hefner is just "accused" of victimizing and "objectifying" women. As for dismissing the views of the numerous prominent people who have praised Hefner, that may speak more to your intolerance for people who disagree with you than with an "objective" assessment of Hefner.

Instead of continuing to derail this thread, why don't you start a new one, You can explain your respect for Hefner, and those who disagree with your assessment can voice their positions.

I for one would be happy to describe why Hefner had "real victims" too.

So the obituary thread becomes a place to debate?? Sorry, but in my opinion, that just ain't right, regardless of how you feel about the deceased. :dismay:

We will all die one day... and what will others say about us? And where will they say it?

Today's been a rough one.... please... don't argue here.

I'm sorry. I should have suggested that the discussion be moved to its own thread in my first response to Joe.

This is not the first time, though, that news of someone's death has been met with other than praise for the dead. I think the adage "Don't speak ill of the dead" arose because of a certain sense of fairness, since the dead can't defend themselves. But we are constantly speaking about people who aren't here to defend themselves. I don't think anyone becomes more noble simply by virtue of being dead.

Also, in fairness, this thread is in the Debates forum.
