Stanislav Petrov, 'The Man Who Saved The World,' Dies At 77
He was on the overnight shift in the early morning hours of Sept. 26, 1983, when the computers sounded an alarm, indicating that the U.S. had launched five nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missiles.

After several nerve-jangling minutes, Petrov didn't send the computer warning to his superiors. He checked to see if there had been a computer malfunction.

He had guessed correctly.
Wow, what a story! I think many of us should be thankful this fellow kept his wits about him....

Now there are reports he didnt die yet but clinging to life...

The Los Angeles Times is saying there is no official confirmation of his death. It is very unclear to me what that means in terms whether he is alive or dead.

Hefner was a monster. Good riddance.

I would like to disassociate myself from these comments. No one has to like Hefner, but I think that labelling him as a "monster" is irrational overkill.

When I heard Hugh Hefner had died, I wished I believed in hell

Rene Denfeld has a book called The New Victorians where she presents a great deal of evidence showing that many women are alienated from organized feminism and decline to identify themselves as feminists. The kind of rhetoric found in this article by Julie Bindel is just the type of thing that will further alienate men and women of good will from the feminist movement.

You don't have to identify as a feminist in order to have profound distaste for how Hefner objectified and used women professionally and personally.

I despised Hefner. Good riddance. Hefner kept women like slaves and made it both profitable and mainstreamed.
I'm so sorry that Tom Petty died. So many to young!

Do you mean women like Nancy Sinatra and Christy Brinkley, who both appeared in Playboy and praised him after his death?
