That's pretty much everyone's reason for wanting a gun. (Everyone who wants a gun, that is.)
I disagree. Some people, probably mostly men, want guns because they really like guns.

It's what has landed us in this predicament in the first place. The fact that it's the reason given by one lesbian does not make it more compelling.
She identifies as queer.

Most of the time we only see liberal gun control arguments, or conservative "from my cold dead hands" arguments. I think it's important to see other arguments, specifically from a radical leftist point of view.

It's the same argument (self protection and protection from the government, in this case cops) that we hear all the time. She's not the first leftist to make it. Having it come from a leftist doesn't give it more weight in my eyes. I don't see why it should.

The argument is from a different point of view. It's clear that you don't agree with the argument, and that's fine.

The goal is that if guns are made unavailable, then those hyper-masculine men and rapists won't have guns either, and thus the same threat isn't there.

Also, and I'm not sure if I 100% buy this except as a band-aid measure until we as a society get our **** more together, the vast majority of gun control advocates don't include carefully-regulated handgun ownership in their argument. Eliminating self-defense has never been anyone's goal (except Ronald Reagan, and we don't have to listen to him because he's dead), only eliminating the means to commit mass shootings.

carefully-regulated handgun ownership

Define that, please :)
Most other countries than the US (e.g. England, Germany, ...) do have "carefully regulated handgun ownership, meaning that they think that only people who need to have a gun should get one...

Let's face it, it is those guns owned by law-abiding citizens (law abiding until the moment they kill somebody with the gun, that is), that account for the vast majority of gun casualties (especially accidents and suicides).

It's incredibly fuzzy, and I agree. No amount of regulation is going to be safe enough in my opinion. Best to just ban them altogether. But the legislative reality is that regulations are going to come way before any sort of banning measures.

You're very invested in the idea that it was purely coincidental that the killings "just happened to happen" in a gay nightclub.

God, yes. It's been months and this is still happening. So sick of this mindset.

Like, I really don't care why the guy decided to target a gay club. It's incredibly, glaringly obvious that he went there because he hated gay people and wanted them to die. If you cannot accept that you are buying into a homophobic narrative. Your intentions do not matter more than the truths an entire community is repeatedly telling you about themselves and the discrimination they face on a daily basis. If you value assigning another political narrative to the shooting over the truth of it, then you are a homophobe.
