Ha. you know for the longest time I thought "compassion" was the most powerful emotion for affecting good works. It turns out that "spite" is pretty powerful too

Setting up a fundraiser to spite someone who has just died is pretty low and divisive.

Nope. Rush was low and divisive.

Its like that math rule, "Subtracting a negative number from a negative number – a minus sign followed by a negative sign, turns the two signs into a plus sign". So giving to a charity because a truly large A-hole would have hated it - is actually a positive.

Maybe its "low" of me to find this article so appealing.

I was just reading about Agatha Christie, and the author's opinion was that one of the reasons Cristie's novels are so appealing is that we know going in that by the last page everyone in the book will have gotten what they deserve. If only it worked so clean and clear in real life.

Perhaps it did in this case.

A Man Called His Ex A 'Moron' By Text While Storming The Capitol.

I disagree. Rush lived to create hate and division among his followers, using his radio show as a pulpit to spread fear and hate of any race but his own, women, LGBT....
It's an honor to help bring those he brought down

So this is what’s happening for those of you not aware.

It does a good job in just 4.5 minutes of explaining January 6 and why the lawsuit was filed.

Last Night Tonight with Jon Oliver is just hitting it out of the park lately.

It almost seems wrong that maybe the best news show on TV is in the category of Late night talk and News Satire.

someone asked Samantha Bee, wasn't it great that Trump was President, the jokes write themselves.

She replied, No the jokes don't write themselves. My Jewish writing staff writes them.

I got a big kick out of that.

CPAC 2021 Open Display of Nazi Symbols - Security Boulevard

The CPAC stage shaped like the Odal rune with feet - a common symbol of far right groups.

cpac-2021-nazi-stage-500x231.jpeg

Odal (rune)

Germany

Further information: Nazi symbolism, Strafgesetzbuch § 86a, Odalism, and Troll cross

Flag of the Volksdeutsche 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen

Insignias of the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen and the 23rd SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division Nederland

The rendition of the Odal rune with wings or feet (serifs) was the badge of the SS Race and Settlement Main Office, which was responsible for maintaining the racial purity of the Nazi Schutzstaffel (SS).[5] It was also the emblem of ethnic Germans (Volksdeutsche) of the 7th SS Volunteer Mountain Division Prinz Eugen operating during World War II in the Nazi Germany-sponsored Independent State of Croatia. This rendition has been used by the Neo-Nazi Wiking-Jugend in Germany, and in South Africa by the Anglo-Afrikaner Bond, the Boeremag, the Blanke Bevrydingsbeweging,[6] and the Italian neo-fascist group National Vanguard. This particular rendition has no historical significance outside of Nazi Germany. Because of its Nazi associations, Strafgesetzbuch 86a bans any usage of the Odal rune as with most other symbols if used in a Neo-Nazi context.

Another version with arrows on the end was used by the 23rd SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division Nederland.

South Africa

It was used by the Afrikaner Student Federation and the far-right wing White Liberation Movement.[7][8]

United States

In November 2016, the leadership of the National Socialist Movement announced their intention to replace the Nazi-pattern swastika with the Odal rune on their uniforms and party regalia in an attempt to enter mainstream politics.[9][10]

At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held in Orlando, Florida, on February 25–28, 2021, the floor layout of the main stage resembled the odal rune with wings/feet, leading to speculation on social media as to why that design was chosen. CPAC chairman Matt Schlapp said comparisons were “outrageous and slanderous”.[11]

New Zealand

The symbol was used with the Black Sun/Sonnenrad/Schwarze Sonne, Tyr rune, Celtic Cross, Kolovrat swastika, the neo-Nazi slogan Fourteen Words and Archangel Michael's Cross of the Romanian fascist group Iron Guard by the Christchurch mosque shooter Brenton Harrison Tarrant.[12]

It’s been said that you should never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. Applying this maxim to the Conservative Political Action Conference makes it one of the stupidest organizations in American politics today, and that’s saying something.

I'd guess most likely it was a coincidence. A shape like that is bound to crop up at some point or if it doesn't some other shape with some other connotation might do so.

Other less likely theories.
It could be that they did it deliberately to set a trap for twitter mob liberals to walk into, if they think the criticism will make liberals look silly and enable them to criticise the left for caring more about cancel culture than other things.

It's also possible that one person did it deliberately, but without the consent or knowledge of anyone else. It might not have been someone senior. A nazi in the organization who didn't tell anyone why s/he designed that shape.

Least likely of all is that this is because all Republicans and Trumpians are nazis and did it together. That just doesn´t make sense.

As to the people trying to cancel Hyatt, best case scenario is that no-one pays any attention. Worse case is this is just another tiny thing that adds to the general sense that liberals are mad and causes a few more people to vote for Trump in 2024 (if he runs).

You should read the article I posted and then comment on it. The author makes some good points that wasn't apparent or obvious to me.

I already included as a quote the lead. Here is the second to last.

Ignorance and stupidity is the charitable explanation. The cynical one is that the CPAC brass knew exactly what this stage represented and wanted it that way. Schlapp's claim that it wasn’t intentional is disingenuous. Regardless of whether CPAC planners intended to create a stage that celebrates white supremacy, that’s exactly what they did. And after it was called to their attention, they did nothing, so you can only assume they were OK with what it represents.

"And after it was called to their attention, they did nothing, so you can only assume they were OK with what it represents."

Let's break this down.

"And after it was called to their attention" = a cancel culture twitter mob tried to crush you

"they did nothing" a day has passed since our twitter mob tried to force you to redesign and physically rebuild a large structure in the middle of a demanding event and you have not done it

"so you can only assume they were OK with what it represents." you have produced a shape that displeases me, therefore you are a nazi.

Another one which seems related is Amazon changing a logo because people said it looks like Hitler's moustache.

It's all getting a bit silly if you ask me.

Boy are you giving them too much credit! We're talking the CPAC, that in particular this year is catering to white supremacy and nationalism and craziness. If it were in fact a mistake, it easily would have been attributed to the designer, and easily covered up, and apologized -- mostly to the members--who of course I'm sure were thrilled with it as it is

I was going to list a few 'dog whistles', but found this thats more comprehensive:
