Weinstein's mock-comeback came on the same day it was confirmed that the company he co-founded has been saved from bankruptcy.
The Weinstein Company will now be run by a largely female board after an investor group, led by the businesswoman Maria Contreras-Sweet, paid $500m (£362m) for its assets.
Nashville's Mayor--the one that had the extra-marital affair with her policeman/bodyguard--resigned today. She had said she would not resign, but I guess she changed her mind. I am not sure why. The city's newspaper, The Tennessean, put out what seemed to me to be a harsh editorial calling on her to resign. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is still investigating her, as is a special committee of the Metro Council. They may or may not find some financial improprieties in relation to the affair.
If she had asked me, I would have recommended that she not resign. But what's done is done.
The Vice Mayor, David Briley, will now take over as Mayor. I do not know much about him, but his family name is prominent in Nashville.
Her resignation was part of the plea agreement she entered into in connection with felony charges arising from the payment of hourly overtime to her security chief for periods of time she was having sex with him (as evidenced by time stamped nude photos he took of her). She's getting off with three years probation, repayment by her to the city of $11,000, and her resignation.
She resigned to avoid prison, which was sensible.
They are demanding Wendy’s sign onto the Fair Food Program, which would require the fast-food giant to purchase tomatoes from growers that follow a worker-designed code of conduct that includes a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment and abuse in the fields. Wendy’s is the only major fast-food chain that has refused to sign onto the Fair Food Program.
