About a week ago I decided to go completely Vegan, so I'm new to this way of eating. So I was wondering, Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for traveling and sticking to a Vegan diet? Starting tomorrow I will be loading everything up and going from Texas to Ohio. Oh how fun this will be....not! Lol

First of all, how are you traveling? By plane, bus, train or car? Will you have the ability to refrigerate anything? Will you have the ability to cook anything? Are you talking about whole meals, or mainly snacks? Details! We need details! :p

I will be going by car and I have a huge cooler I will be taking with me. I probably won't be able to cook, and if I can it will be limited to a microwave. Lol I would like ideas for whole meals, snacks have pretty much been covered. I was considering picking up several salads from TJ's or WF, but I dont know how well they would hold up. I'd also rather not eat salads for my whole trip! ;)

B: Banana, soya yogurt, small boxes of soya milk, breakfasts cereal. Remember paper cups and spoons.
L: Sandwiches with peanut butter.
D: Some kind of microwaveble bag-food. Or if you're lucky you might be able to find something that doesn't even need microwaving. I would expect WF or TJ to have something like this. Personally, I would prefer to find a restaurant tho, like Danielle suggested.

You can buy 'incidentaly' vegan stuff (fruit, veg, rice, bread, jam, peanut butter, cereal, instant noodles, etc ..) virtualy anywere Hannah.

The hard things to get hold of are those you need to carry with you the most.

Vegan milk and vegan butter/spread are the two things that are top of my list if I ever venture out.

Next priorities would be things that spice otherwise bland vegan foods up; Salad dressing, nut/seed 'sprinkle mixes' and stuff like that.

How long is the drive? On day trips I normally don't eat whole meals - just pack some snacks and drinks. If I absolutely need a meal, I normally swing by Taco Bell or subway. But I don't really like taking food breaks on trips, I like to drive through with as few stops as possible.

I always travel with individual packets of peanut butter or almond butter. As for whole meals, pack a few sandwiches - field roast or light life deli "meats" with vegenaise, lettuce and tomato on whole wheat bread. You may want to keep the sliced tomato in a separate container so your bread won't get soggy. Pasta salad is a good option, too.

Instant oatmeal packets, hummus, bread, bagels, wraps, instant rice cups or bags, shelf stable soy/almond milk cartons and Happycow!

Thanks for the ideas!

I cooked up a big pot of Oatmeal before I left so that's been my breakfast, stopped at WF bought a few salads, beyond meat chicken strips (which are really good btw), vegan protein bars, snacks, fruit and vegan yogurt. So far so good!

I made it! Lol

Planning ahead and buying everything before I left made it so easy and far less stressful for me as well as the rest of my family. :) Everyone else got to eat wherever without having to worry about me being able to find something. Thanks again for the tips!

I know your trip is over, but i found this article with tips that might be helpful to other vegans that are traveling ( a couple of them are geared more towards women).

I also found that sweet potatoes, canned beans, and a small jar of salsa work out wonderfully while on vacation. All you need is a microwave and you've got some instant meals.

I second the sweet potatoes, beans and salsa. So, so yummy!
Glad your trip went well, Hannah.
