What do you Californians think of Katie Porter? I ran across a few videos of her and she seems impressive to me.

I liked her enough to send her a donation when she ran for office two years ago, and I’m not even one of her constituents. But these days, every Congressional seat counts.

Good to know about KP. She definitely sounds on the ball.

So the above story got me to thinking that Biden is going to appoint her his Covid Response Team's Media Director.

which got me thinking about Biden hiring people to fix up the State department since Trump tried to destroy it. There is a lot of work to be done in Defense and the EPA too. Oh, and the USDA and NIH. Ooops almost forgot the f------ justice department.

So it got me to thinking about the grading system that the Civil Service uses. Like how they award points to your score if you are a veteran and such.

Testtified against orders = + 30
Testified without permission = + 25
Fired by Trump - +20
Quit in protest of some policy = +15
Quit = +10
Remained in at the job but secretly worked to thwart policies = + 5

I know this thread is pretty much concluded, but this bit of news seems significant.

The conservative-majority U.S. Supreme Court just rejected Trump's legal challenge against Biden's Pennsylvania win.

What about this new Texan lawsuit. Cruz said he wants to take it to the supreme court, too.

As the thread’s creator, and because of the ongoing drama (that Trump has created) over the election results, I ask that the thread remain active until Joe Biden is officially sworn in as the next president, which will conclude the current election cycle. As Yogi Berra supposedly said, “It ain’t over til it’s over.” Then a mod can close it if they so wish. After that, if anyone wants to discuss the Biden presidency and/or Donald Trump post presidency, separate threads can be created.

Seriously. I can’t believe I’m still nervous about how this is going to end. I keep telling myself it’s not possible that it will go badly but I trust nothing.

I agree with Amy's and KLS's sentiments. I now feel my request to close this thread was premature and optimistic.

I don't trust Trump.
Actually, I do trust him - to do something stupid and damaging.

I hope we can continue to have conversations about politics. Although this is a vegan thread, many vegan - adjacent issues are dependent on good government policies. And it is pretty clear that here in the USA good vegan-adjacent policies are dependent on Democratic leadership.

@David3 , its like whack-a-mole. knock down Nevada and then Texas pops up.

Texas has filed an application to the Supreme Court to initiate a lawsuit against Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Georgia — four swing states that Joe Biden won in the presidential election. The lawsuit is a piece of theater, not a credible legal strategy.

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Supreme Court has rejected a GOP bid to undo Democrat President-elect Joe Biden’s victory over President Donald Trump in the state, saying no evidence of misconduct or illegal votes was presented in a lawsuit that challenged certain ballots in metro Phoenix.
