Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

My daughter had it before vaccines and was basically in bed for a week and a half, and lost taste and smell for like 3-4 months. My dad refused the vaccine and ended up in the hospital with it. A former classmate died from it. I got a JJ shot by default as soon as I was eligible, and since that seemed to work I followed with a JJ booster last November. Covid finally caught up to me after seeing my mom for Mother’s Day. Thankfully it turned out to be one of the easiest things I ever had. Just a 2 day fever and swelled and sticky throat for a couple days. No respiratory issues, no loss of taste or smell, no headache, no queasiness like I get with the flu. I still take precautions to not get it again, because I have a history of blood clots along with other problems.

People are going to get Covid boosters here from next week. Care home residents will be first. My husband is eligible as he is over 50. I was considered vulnerable for the other jabs so I'm not sure if that will be the same this time and I get it.

I have booked my normal flu jab. It was quite hard to get an appointment and that will be mid November.

I got my 4 th booster last month.

I’m still being negligent. It’s all because the new vaccine is supposedly coming out this month and I feel like I should just wait for it now. But, I should just get the old vaccine now because once the new one comes out I’m not going to want to be one of the first ones to get it. I always have to wait a couple of months to make sure nothing bad happens with it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sometimes I kind of feel invincible because I’ve evaded it this long. It’s foolish, I know. So at the very least, I should just go get the second booster now. I think part of my hesitation is that I’ve been unusually busy and I don’t want to get the shot within a few days of knowing I have an appointment to do something since I had a bad enough reaction with each jab. Ugh…I’m such a procrastinator!

I forgot to get the booster (the third shot). At first I was waiting to get it. But it took too long to become eligible and now I'm not sure whether to get it or not....

I don't think so much about Covid living here. You definitely have less people wearing masks in my new area compared to London. I didn't think many people wore masks in London, but around here it is maybe 5% of people with masks and they are usually people who are older or elderly.

I haven't given much thought to COVID either. But yesterday I was doing customer service at this huge event. There were hundreds of people. Maybe even million... From all around the world. And suddenly I was like "oh, yeah... COVID was a thing..."
Only the Asians wore masks.

I have mixed feelings too. I figure I'm overdue for a booster of some sort (got my first doses in March 2021), but these new variants keep coming out.... so... should I get boosted sooner, or wait until a more up-to-date vaccine is developed? I've heard that Delta and Omicron mostly tend to give milder illness than the first variants, and I'm not sure about B-4(?) and B-5(?).

I feel ya. I've also been waiting for the omicron-specific vaccine, and just like you, I want to wait to see what happens. I also have been procrastinating because I know I will lose a day or two from the reaction, and I just have too much to do! 😁

I wouldn’t mind so much if I were masking when I go out now. But I’m not. Granted, I’m only running in and out of a grocery store. But still. And I definitely don’t mask at outdoor gatherings. I feel like I’m playing Russian roulette!

oh…and i stand corrected. I forgot about the two craft events I went to with the senior connection. Those were indoors.

I have declined a few invitations for the movies and eating in restaurants. For some reason, I’m just not ready for that yet. Maybe once I’ve gotten my second booster, whether it be the current vaccine or the new one.

I haven't been masking outdoors, but I still do when I go to the store or some other indoor place. I, too, have declined a couple of invitations to go to the movies or eat out. It's the enclosed nature that's putting me off on those activities.

That said, I will be going to the Beyond Van Gogh exhibit in Hartford next Sunday, and I plan to wear a mask. And I have an outdoor concert coming up in early October (Alice in Chains!!) and I'm still on the fence about masking for that one. It depends on how close the seats are, I guess, haha. It's in Mass. at a venue I haven't been to in ages, so I'm not sure what it looks like these days. We'll see.

My mom and I went to bingo at the Foxwoods casino, and I wore a mask, as did she. She's more lax about the mask than I am.

Earlier this summer, when I became eligible for my fourth shot, I debated waiting until the omicron-specific vaccine was available. But I figured it would take too long - it's still not available here. So I got the regular shot, same as the first three. I'll be eligible for another shot (based on date, maybe not by age) in January, and I'll get the variant-specific one then.

I still wear a mask when I am in a store or other indoor space. I can't take a chance on catching it.

I always have a mask handy and wear one when I'm indoors - besides at home. But lately a couple of times I've forgotten it. although there are Lots of other not wearing masks in stores - if I'm now wearing one I feel guilty.

Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat and felling bad. No fever and I did the home test and came up negative. but I've spoken to people who were symptomatic and didn't test positive right away. So I stayed home yesterday. and I think I'll do the same today and test again tomorrow. I am starting to feel better already.

I think after the weekend I'll email my doc and make sure I'm current on everything.

I hope you feel better soon! My sister just got over a nasty virus that wasn't COVID. She tested twice at home and then got a PCR test at the doctor's, and all three came up negative. It started with a sore throat and mostly was like a really bad head cold. She had some coughing as well, which has hung around even though she now feels fine. It lasted a good week before she started feeling better, which is why she thought it might be COVID.

That sounds like what I have. However I started feeling better this afternoon.
